Mid July Class Prediction Thread

Attrition will not matter once the number gets to 24. As it has been said, absolute max this class will be 24(25 if you count Swafford going on scholarship). Taking 29 is just not an option no matter how you work it.

QB-Jennings, Dormady
RB-Kamara, Reid
WR-Williams, Woods
TE-Oliver
OL-Stewart, Jones, Hall, Richmond
DT-Picou, McKenzie, Tuttle
DE-Butcher, Jackson, Phillips
LB-Cherry, Smith
S-Griffin
CB-Ordway, Bruce
P-Townsend
LS-Lovingood

Obviously Jefferson, Martin, & Sapp would be the next likely "IN" IF the staff does something with a current commitment. I won't make that call right now.

Very realistic class. There are some names on there that I don't think will sign with us in february but I don't want to say names.

Why waste a scholarship on a long snapper? Is this the first ever?

If you ever have a bad long snapper, you'll realize it's not "wasting" a scholarship by any means. Just like any other special teams member. You realize how much they're worth until you have a bad one. Plus, I think he's an offensive lineman as well.

And that would be one of the most awesome defensive classes we've ever had on paper. 10 4* I believe. Maybe 9....but that's for when Kahlil goes to a 5*.

Thats 3 five stars on D too. Mckenzie, Tuttle and Gibson since hes gonna be a safety right? :D

Well, Tuttle is still a 4*, and not doing events like the Opening, he'll have to have a show out Senior Season to get the bump. Not too difficult to get a bump from 3* to 4*, but it's a hard bump from a 4 to a 5*. At least on Rivals. He may be a 5* on the other sites, but I just keep up with rivals.

And yeah, they say that TG has incredible potential as a safety. Dunno. He wants to be a QB, and apparently has potential there too. Dilfer stated he should be a QB at the next level, and could be like Denard or Pryor if given time.

I sensed a bit of sarcasm there, but in all seriousness, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could wind up a safety.

I'll admit, Torrance Gibson is as confusing as a case as I've seen. It's not that he's playing it close to the chest like some....

It's that nobody has a clue if the staff wants him, if they want him as a QB only, if he wants to play QB only, if he's willing to play something different, if they're willing to try him at something different....it's just a big mess.

I really do think though if he's committing in October, I really think he's ours. I could see him committing right before or after the Bama game. Would be a big morale booster to grab a 5* recruit before or after the Bama game.

But then again...staff may not want him anymore. I sincerely have no idea with this kid. I think we want him, else Butch wouldn't be calling, with QD and JJ on board.

Are you sure you're not mixing up Jennings and Gibson? Where did the talk of Gibson at Safety come from? Jennings could be a big time S. Only thing I have seen for TG other than QB is WR.

Like i said mine was mainly sarcasm but a really fast 6'4 200 pound guy could always play safety. plus im pretty sure i read a beat writer/recruiting analyst tweet somewhere that said he could really cover the field in 7 on 7 at safety.

Yes, it's a rare opinion, but one writer did say that he thinks TG's greatest potential is at safety. Can't remember who it was or where it was, but yes, it was an interesting thought.

An athlete like him could wind up anywhere. I'll try to find it.

I'm pretty sure we are taking Jefferson over Woods and I don't really like Bruce at cb if there is other more experienced Cornerbacks looking to sign with us and Sapp is a Vol. JMO

Never mind. Trying to find a quote in the TG thread is like trying to find a thread without LebVol discussing numbers. You just can't do it. ;)

Appreciate you LebVol. You're the numbers man around here.

Woods was one of the first to sign in this class, but you've heard practically nothing from him. Not sure he ends up as part of this class.

Bruce will be so grateful to play, he wont care where they stick him.

And I agree, I think Sapp is a Vol. We need at least one more LB this class. Still not where we need to be from a depth perspective at LB yet.

I wish we could get Sweat ,McGraw, and Tuttle somehow but I am greedy I suppose.

Honestly i hope mcneil and cortez go to outside backer and jennings ends up being a dynamite safety.

Then we can pump TG full of peanut butter and bbq and get him up to about 230-240 and have a monster lb! :D see the options are limitless!

Okay, pretty sure there's some blue-font needed here. I think I caught that one! :)

Lol but really thats why you grab guys like baker and TG because in all reality theres no telling where they end up. athletes find the field. look at guys like hines ward and even al wilson.

Well, so much of Tennessee's success in the 90's came from taking RB's like Eric Westmoreland and turning them into LB's.

I mean, you're right, ATH's like Eric Berry and whoever don't stay on the bench. They'll find a place to play. TG will be one of those guys.

Eh, these are fun. I see us taking more than 25 again. I see there being a lot of attrition this offseason. I think after two seasons, Butch will know who just isn't cutting it, and some guys will see it. So, I'm going to assume we take 29.

QB - Jennings, Dormady, Gibson
RB - Kamara, Reid
WR - Williams, Jefferson
TE - Oliver
OL - Richmond, Lovingood, Jones, Stewart, Jackson, Hall
DL - McKenzie, Picou, Butcher, Phillips, Tuttle, Clemmons, DJ Jones (3 DTs, 3 DEs)
LB - Austin Smith, Cecil Cherry, Sapp
DB - Ordway, Justin Martin, McGraw
ATH - Bruce
P - Townsend

I'm going to guess that Griffin and Woods aren't a part of this class. No real reason, just guesses. Like everything else on this board.

McKenzie, Tuttle, Picou, Jones (3 DTs)?
