I like 99gator. He's funny and he ran off that Kermit douche from the recruiting forum.

But this isn't out of nowhere dude. Some serious people have said this.

In before someone brings up the argument that the University is too broke to pay for Gruden.

Kirk Herbstreit was on a local Atlanta radio show this morning and they asked him wasn't Jon likely to go pro if he got back into coaching . Kirk said not really that Jon had told him it would have to be the right place, meaning the school would have to be willing to give the football team enough resources to compete for National Championships, and the school would have to be capable of competing for Championships with those resources. Now whether Tennessee fits that description is debateable

That's not debatable. Tennessee absolutely fits that description.

It is very debatable , starting with Cheek raising the entrance level for athlete's . Also , do you really know UT's money commitment level . I will answer that for you , no you don't . There are a lot of variables outside of By Gawd we are Tennessee ,

You do? I think the BOT meeting took care of Cheek's involvement.

Are you saying the entrance levels are dropped to match other SEC schools? Do you know how much money we are willing to pay a coaching staff ? ...........and no I don't and neither does anyone else here, therefore it is debateable how commited we as a University are to fielding a championship caliber football team

If this is the case, what are all of us doing here? If this is the case I would hope that there are enough big money folks that tell the admin, "don't come looking for money here".

Dickey , Battle , Majors , Fulmer , Kiffin and Dooley . Those are our coaches for the last 50 years . There is ONE successful HC when he was hired and that is Majors . You've had over 7000 post here in the last 5 years , so it hasn't stopped you from being here .

Ah yes...people forget that most fans wanted Johhny to come home when Battle was hired. Can you imagine what Majors might have been able to do with the talent Dickey left behind? In '76 Majors wins the NC and Battle goes 2-4 in the SEC. The Administration learned their lesson and hired Majors the second time around.

I'm well aware of our history in hiring up and comers, however, the post Fulmer era has been one mistake after the other. It has led to the worst three year stretch of football in history. A far worse stretch than the Battle era. I'd like to think, as with Majors, the folks in charge have had enough and hire a proven, successful head coach and get this thing turned around.

What would be truly fascinating to speculate about would be Dickey's legacy, had he decided to stay at Tennessee. I believe that he might very well have retired with 250 victories and half a dozen SEC titles. As it was, he was 3-2-1 against Bear Bryant. How many coaches can say that? I certainly don't believe that the 1970's would have been dominated so thoroughly by Alabama.
