Rough one in Knoxville

How do you think Tennessee will do this recruiting season?

- Majaz from Knoxville, Tenn.

Tennessee has 19 commitments already and it's not a great class overall, currently ranked 10th in the SEC just ahead of only Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Only two of the Vols' 19 commitments are ranked as four-stars and the remaining top targets, guys such as Gabriel Wright, Antonio Richardson, Maurice Couch, Allan Wasonga, Cameron Clear and others have many other big-time suitors. Tennessee can only claim to be the leader for one, Couch, while the others will be a battle down the stretch. I don't see Tennessee finishing strong as it did last year. It could end up outside the top half of the SEC and outside the top 25.

Sorry but IMO this guy has lost his mind. :banghead2:

He doesn't take into consideration the couple of players that will probably be bumped to 4*s. Plus, he doesn't even mention other top prospects that UT are after like Rome, Buie, Bigelow, Rasco, Johnson, Pagan, etc.

I hope you are right. I can't claim to know enough about the guys we are recruiting to know one way or another. My only concern is if the talking heads end up being right and this class ends up not being ranked in the top half of SEC schools. Our short and long term woes only get worse if we bring in a mediocre class this year.

Farrell has a dog in the fight given the fact that recruiting rankings are his and others stock and trade. If a coach builds a class without a lot of *'s they have no choice but to trash it because any success without the 'proper number of *'s' is a threat to their existence. The previous statement not withstanding; I think Dooley and staff will finish strong and will have the 'proper number of *'s' to make the top 15.

This won't be a "great" class by sec standards but I would almost bet my life savings it won't end up outside of the top 25.

Good call.

IMO this class will not blow anyone away and will not be highly ranked. However, the guys that are committed are class acts and hard working. there will be some break out stars from this class and it is a solid foundation to build on. OLine and DLine prospects are extremely hard to figure out and put a star on them therefore our class will be ranked lower than it should be. GBO

So we'll have a bunch of guys who will go 6-6, but will work really hard at it and do it in a classy way. This is NOT a positive.

Somehow I don't think that is what he was saying. We need players that can qualify, enroll early, be able to learn the playbook, and have the ability to contribute asap. (if you haven't noticed we have a lot of depth problems). Also, he mentioned that we have to take a bunch of linemen on both sides, and the "stars" never accompany these prospect like they do the skill positions.

I was considering posting this as well jmoore and wasn't sure how to go about titleing it (guess it wasn't too hard) so I'm glad you did. I read this and laughed at how stupid he sounds. GT09 has basically confirmed that Farrell is an idiot in another thread and talked about how his "Weekly Whispers" are nothing but guesses. He said Farrell rarely talks to prospects and just throws BS out there. This is evidence of that.

I always liked Mike Farrell on M*A*S*H. He was much better than the guy he replaced, Wayne Rogers.

I asked him a very simple question. This is how he replied. I wonder who put him up there..... I personally think he lacks a lot of information
CDD and company will manage a respectable top 15 class this time. Of that I am sure !!!!
GO VOLS !!!!!

I want talent. Could care less about stars. If honest, those guys will admit that they miss many talented guys. I hope Dooley and staff find the ones they missed.

so basically we will be getting Boise St. caliber talent..

First of all, their talent could wip us this year, and second of all, seeing that we are so far down a the food chain right now for most recruits, I think this class is a good start to a brighter future. I just can't get over some of you who think we should have had a top ten recruiting class with all that has happened. How about some credit for this coaching staff for finding players like Tom Smith, Justin Coleman, and a few others before the other schools had a chance to get in on them. And as it has been said a hundred times, we had to go after mostly OL, and DL which do not carry same stars as RB's WR's, and QB's. I say great job to the staff, and I can't wait until you have a full year to build relationships wih the next class! :dance2:

I can't believe this hack is one of the lead guys there...

I mean...I could understand believing we won't finish in the top 15...I don't agree but I can understand that opinion...

But not even in the top 25? Does this guy have any idea what's going on in the world of recruiting?

We've got 2-3 players that will bup to 4* plus we are in great shape with 6-7 others...we're likely to end up with 8-10+ 4*'s total...yet this guy believes we're going to fall outside the top 25?

Give me a break...I could do better than this guy

Don't be disappointed if he's right and UT finishes that low.

Fortunately, Oregon whose recruiting history looks alot like what Dooley is attempting is looking more and more like a BCS contender. They are by far the best team UT has played... and UT has played 3 SEC teams that have consistently ranked much higher than the Ducks in Rivals' rankings over the past 5 years.

There is more than one way to build a championship team. The odds are maybe better if you are signing all those Rivals 250 guys... but there is more talent out there to be found.
