Mike Gundy drunk driving apologist

He simply said what so many are afraid to say out loud. Find me one person who drinks and calls a ride/lines up a DD every single time they have a drink, regardless of how little. I’ve always said I’ll never judge a person over a DUI because I could’ve been caught umpteen times too; like Gundy said.

That's not what he said. 3-4 is what he said. Not a single. Stop being disingenuous

Any time my wife and I know we are drinking at dinner we take an Uber. What crazy ass world are you living in?

Gundy tries to rationalize not suspending Gordon, with a variation of "everybody does it." That is exactly the wrong message to send. The right thing to do would have been showing him video of Henry Ruggs being sentenced to prison for the death of Tina Tintor in Las Vegas. Your life and the lives of others can completely change and even end, with just one lapse in judgment.

Gundy often comes across as a buffoon.

What he said was pretty stupid for an authority figure to say and a bad take, but I’ll give the man his due for telling the truth.

The way that the laws are written, anybody who has consumed any amount of alcohol and then gotten behind the wheel of a car within about 3 hours of consuming said alcohol can get a DUI. That's a significant amount of the population.

Having said that, it is an incredibly stupid thing for a person in his position to say.

Speak for yourself. I'm almost 35 and never gotten behind the wheel after more than 2 beers. I've known too many people whose lives were completely ****ed because of a drunk driver.

did it once, realized how dangerous it was, never again.

but I will say most states DUI laws are dumb. TN you can get a DUI just having alcohol in your system and walking to your car with your car keys on you. most states will also find you guilty of a DUI even if you blow a 0.000

"Physical Control of a Motor Vehicle
This element of Tennessee's DUI law means you don't have to be in motion to face arrest. You may be in physical control of a vehicle if you can drive, should you choose. Examples include having the keys in the ignition of a parked car or being asleep in the vehicle with the keys in your pocket."

That’s a perfectly fine take to have in private and show compassion. Publicly into a microphone… wow. You just can’t go there even if you’re just trying to be real.

Many states use DUIs as a money scam. That’s not me advocating for drinking and driving, it’s just that there are so many unnecessary government programs that stay afloat due to court mandated alcohol classes that you pay for etc… if you get popped. At this point, given the technology available to us, we should always be able to not drink and drive. I don’t drink anymore, but if I did I would use Uber, Lyft or whatever.

Still can get a DUI.

Not condoning it, but the vast majority of people who consume alcohol on any kind of remotely consistent basis could have gotten a DUI if they drove within a few hours of drinking one. I don't know many people (nobody, really) who is calling an Uber or getting a DD because they had one Miller Lite an hour before. I think most people think you can't get a DUI if you blew below a .08, but that isn't true.

I’m not talking about not suspending him, there has to be repercussions for it. I’m just referring to the context of “I’ve done it 1000 times.” Plenty of people have had several drinks at a party or game over several hours and then driven home.

Here is the truth. Life is about perspective. Some of us come fro ma world where drinking and driving, smoking in public all kinds of things looked down on these days were common place. Drinking and driving is bad.. but trust me it happens all the time literally right now if you live anywhere near people someone is driving drunk within a few miles of you in broad daylight. Maybe your amazon driver. That does not make it right but its a fact of life. What Gundy is saying is actually true in ways he likely does not understand. We live in a society where because of social media everyone sits in judgement of others all day long. Some self-reflection might be in order.

Kinda wild huh, how perspectives change. Hindsight being 20/20 those people look stupid. I mean to me back then they looked stupid but that was the general sentiment of the majority in the 80's and 90's. Gundy was child of those times. His perspective should not be that surprising. If some 30 or 40-year-old said it that would be weird
