Mike Gundy of Okie State

From the article....

...Thing is, it may not be as abrupt as it looks. If you believe the rumors and the rumblings, Reid has been pushing coaches that way for quite some time....

I believe this was a front page article. Not a commentary. That an editor let this pass bothers me.

Finally heard this. If Gundy were my coach I would want him fired merely for the fact that he sounds like a little baby.

I don't blame him for being upset about an article in the paper that fabricated stories about one of his players. He has a right to be. What bothers me is, he seemed more upset about an article in the paper then he was about getting blown out by Troy 2 weeks ago.

He won't be coaching much longer if he doesn't get that program turned around soon.

or what the OSU coach did the other day....that was an impressive rant.

There was a hint of Dennis Green there. But he was yelling at a girl! I don't know about that. I might have to punch him in the throat if that was my daughter/ sister/girl friend/wife.

well, i like the fact he was taking up for one of his kids on the team. i question the forum, and the timing, and the execution of it, but the intent, no problem with it.

If the writer had any kind of respect for what she does, she wouldn't have wrote such non-sense. It was a poorly written article calling the QB a momma's boy.

It's not like he hit her. She wrote an article mocking the QB for basically being a "mommas boy" and he told her to basically eff off and that she has no idea what she is talking about. Kudos to Mike Gundy.

Kudos to Gundy for being a pansy? Big deal, somebody wrote an article that you didn't like about one of your players-be a man and ignore it. This just goes to show what a small time coach Gundy is that he even responded to this.

No it shows he has the confidence in himself to stand up to whoever talks crap about HIS players. I would have loved to play for a guy like that when I played football. He loves his players.

Confidence in his players because he can go on a rampage in a press conference? I think it shows a chemical imbalance. A real man could have said something that was a little more coherent and with a lot more constraint. Anybody can yell, it takes strength to not yell.

This is kinda a iffy subject. I think most fans love that he stood up for one of his players and had enough balls to go off on the local media. On the other side some fans are bashing him for being a big baby and the fact they lost to Troy. I imagine he was pissed after the Troy loss and I'm sure the team heard about it more than once. I personaly like the fact he stood up for his guy. If a college athlete struggles on the field then it's okay for the media to blast his performance but calling him names and taking personal cheap shots at a college player is a little overboard if you ask me.

This guy needs a medal. I would have acted the same way. These players aren't supposed to be put under the microscope and criticized all to hell. They're just students, and in the end, they've got more responsibilities than most people in the NFL. More distractions... their job is more difficult, IMO.

Only quiet people, afraid of any type of confrontation say that.

I'll confront anyone, ask my wife. You know that it takes a lot more to take a breath and not yell at your wife for doing the same dumb thing that you've asked her not to do 500 times before.
Let me guess, your a card carrying bob knight fan?

Wow. I can't argue with someone who doesn't know the correct usage of "your" vs "you're."

And no, I'm not. Bob Knight, while a tremendous coach, would physically harm his players, throw chairs, etc. That's inappropriate. All Mike Gundy did was go to bat for one of his players and call a spade a spade. That article and that woman are garbage.

You're right, that was an egregious error.

See, I agree that harming your players is crossing a line but I think that the screaming diatribe that Gundy went on is not as bad, but still pretty shady. It is one thing to call a spade a spade, I wouldn't have any problem with that. The problem that I have with all of this is the method in which Gundy went about saying the things he said.

That's exactly my take as well. This wasn't a news piece, it was a compilation of gossip and rumors all rolled up to fit an opinion. It might be 100% true, but it is clearly all conjecture and is very lazy.

Nevermind that the story is built around the amateur psychoanalysis of a journalist in Podunk, Oklahoma who saw a Mom give her kid a piece of chicken and decided to read meaning into it.

why? the lady bashed his player for the whole world to see, including all his peers. The least the lady deserved was to be put down in front of her peers. If he was degrading her or being rude to her because she was a woman, that would be one thing. But he simply viewed her for writing an article that she had no business writing in that form, male, female or anything in between.

I think he did it very well. He never once used an obscenity in his entire tirade. I would love for that man to have been my coach.
