why? the lady bashed his player for the whole world to see, including all his peers. The least the lady deserved was to be put down in front of her peers. If he was degrading her or being rude to her because she was a woman, that would be one thing. But he simply viewed her for writing an article that she had no business writing in that form, male, female or anything in between.
I've already said I don't care about what he said so much as the way in which he said it. It was a childish tirade.

I think he did it very well. He never once used an obscenity in his entire tirade. I would love for that man to have been my coach.
I'd rather have somebody I can look up to. We all learn to yell when we are infants.

I just get tired of hack sportswriters who act as if their opinion as a journalism major should mean jack.

I would definitely look up to that man if he were my coach. I would respect him a WHOLE hell of a lot for what he did. He has every right to feel and say what he did.

I also learned to speak in my inside voice as a child. Does that make speaking softly childish?

Any vicious attack on the media has my full support and total admiration.

The problem now is that they circle the wagons and make a big poop storm over all of it. They know how to discourage other coaches from taking them on.

Yep . . . They don't want an environment where bad journalism gets called out because then they might all get held accountable.

Then you should be more pissed at the woman who wrote that article. She deserves no respect from Mike Gundy. Not after she trashes one of his players.

she's a journalist, that's what they do. They write pieces that will bring readers to the paper.

How about a no holds barred match for all the marbles. Mariotti and Carlson VS. Gullien and Gundy

that's not true. As someone who was a broadcast journalism major and worked for a year at a television, our job is to write the news and tell the truth. Unfortunately, sensationalism is taking over and crap like this hits the newsstands.

That wasn't journalism. It was sensationalistic BS. I'm a journalism major and we are taught to always be ethical when we write anything from an editorial to a report. Something obviously got lost in translation with her. Because what she said was neither factually correct, nor ethical. She needs to be writing for the National Enquirer with stories like that. It's garbage, and the editor that let it come out is garbage.

Wait, so you're saying it is respectable (because you have dignity and respect for her, right???) to be an unethical sensationalistic "reporter" in a field that is supposed to be objective?

Right.

you really don't get it do you? It's not journalism. Gundy had it right, she should be reprimanded for it and so should her editor that allowed to be printed. You couldn't be more wrong. It is not journalism and it's not fit for the newspaper, not even in Stillwater, Podunk, Oklahoma. Just as the pen is the way for the writer to talk to the masses, the press conference is the way for Gundy to talk to the masses.

no, you don't get it. I never said she was hitting at the heart of journalism. You said yourself that it was leading to sensationalism and I agree with you-if anything she is in the middle of what is happening in journalism. you may not like it because it doesn't match up with what you want journalism to be-but it's reality. If the actions by Gundy had not been ridiculous then it probably wouldn't be getting so much play.

I never said I had dignity and respect for her, I just think that you should treat people that way.

Journalism may be taught to be objective but it rarely is.

I think Ainge has played very well. Had he been on the florida side of the ball and tebow running the vols, florida still wins. ainge has reminded me of trent green when he was at indiana, you knew he was pretty good on a not very good team and if given the opportunity in the nfl he might produce. green has done so and i think ainge has a shot. just my opinion. i also wonder how much of the sophomore controversy, claussen playing over him, was a design to sway jimmy claussen to come to tenn. i am not knocking claussen i just thought a year's experience might have helped ainge at the time. again just an opinion.

Journalism is the reporting of the news. IT'S VERY DEFINITION DOES NOT CHANGE. Carlson's newspiece was not reporting the news. She made opinions after a few observations and then made up information about the coaches. That is not the news, regardless of whether I want it to be or not. This was not an editorial piece, which could almost be allowed. She wrote her information as fact and she couldn't have been further from the truth.
