Mike Keith and?

Yeah, I think - when it comes to people with enough financial security, it becomes less about having the biggest pile, and more about having the experiences and the memories. Getting to be part of things. The energy of being legit. You're not on the pre-game show from the radio station, you're on the show for the game itself.

As if of us here who are orange-blooded couldn't relate to that. Hell, I have a entertainment-related background and I get excited just thinking about it.

Yep. Bert’s certainly not doing it for a $200/night paycheck. His family’s automation business is highly successful. He’s worth tens of millions.

Titans, I think. I remember him being on the radio team for the Titans when I lived in Nashville.

When Keith took over Sports Talk after Allan Williams he had an intern type as a sidekick. I don’t remember the name, but it might have been Cody. Cody practices law in Nashville.

Jeronne Maymon?

JJJ? Is he still playing?

I don't know if he'd do it NOW, but JJJ for those unaware does have a communications degree, extremely articulate and very well spoken. Would be a great voice to pair with anyone doing basketball games, but might be a "down the road" hire rather than right now.

I’ve seen Maymon before a few games. I don’t know what or where his day job is.

Skylar McThree?

Maybe it was mostly Wilkerson. They worked together at WIVK in the early 1990s.

For some reason I think I remember Keith often saying “Cody Allison”. I could be wrong.
Nah, it was Cody. The lefty was in the communications school at the time and struck up a friendship with Mike. When Mike moved to Nashville, Cody finished up law school and moved there and set up shop. He is a pretty respected disability/insurance claim/ERISA lawyer in Nashville with his own firm now.

I think Cody was on the sidelines for the Titans early in Keith's run. Once I moved to NC, I got Panthers games, so I didn't keep up with the Titans. Haven't talked to Cody in years, but I know he enjoyed working with Mike, and said, as does everyone else, that Mike was a stand-up guy. I have good memories of him from my days on the Hill.

Bert Bertelkamp?

Stevie Hamer?

John Wilkerson?

Nobody?

Who else is a possibility?
Please not Hamer as the early season games he’s done this season were some of the worst color commentary ever. He’s a VFL and seems to be a really nice guy, but he’s not a gifted color commentator.

How about Dane Bradshaw?

Yeah, I'm in the "don't love Hamer" camp, myself. Dane would be a good choice, but he's probably taking a significant pay-cut to leave SEC Network, so I doubt that's happening.

Dane is moving up the ranks at the SEC Network. He even does ESPN games frequently. He won’t be the color guy for UTBB.

I’m not a big advocate for Hamer. But there are worse options.

As many former players that there have been through the years I’m surprised that there aren’t more names being mentioned. Just not that many that played as a regular, stayed throughout their career, haven’t moved away from Knoxville, or aren’t currently busy making a living in the leagues below the NBA. Chris Lofton plays in Korea.

Mark Griffin would be the most likely if he was local.

I hope that Bert sticks around.

I might be in the minority but I’m not crazy about Steve Hamer. I think he does a fine job calling the smaller games on ESPN for us in the early part of the season, but I wouldn’t want him as a full-time basketball commentator.

I’m not sure who I’d call. Bradshaw isn’t leaving the SEC Network so he’s probably a pipe dream.
This. Not a big fan of Hamer teaming up w/ Keith.

On a different note, I went to UT the same time w/ Steve. He gave his all but those teams were so bad. Todays TN fans would be shocked how bad we were.

I agree. I’d love Griffin and would be fine with Hamer too.

I think Mark Pancratz would be good at that but has no experience. Seems like Hamer has paid his dues and been groomed so I can’t see any way it isn’t him.

Pancratz checks several boxes. VFL (as a coach). Local. Primary job is as a financial a professional. Plus he’s been a regular on sports talk radio as a guest as well as the Sports Source Sundays on WATE.

There are a couple of local guys from recent rosters, but without any experience. McBee. Bowden. JaJuan Smith. Doug Roth. Travis Henry. No idea if any are still in the area.

Clarence Swearengen? Is he still in Knoxville?

I think he is and is an executive with a charity. But no media experience.

He scored the first basket at Thompson-Boling in 1987. A dunk off of the opening tip versus Marquette. The Lady Vols actually played the first game in the TBA a day or two earlier.

Edit: actually he works/worked in Knox County Schools administration.
