Mike Matthews to portal? [He’s staying]

This is an amazing time to be a college football player. It's the wild west. They can get all kinds of money before rules and regulations take over. If I was a player right now I'd be trying to leverage every dollar (actually I probably wouldn't. I'm too dumb and loyal). This is like getting in on Google when it first started up.

That being said, as a fan, this is the worst of the worst to watch play out. I'd imagine as a coach you'd have to be wishing you were in Saban's position and watching this play out from your couch knowing you had it good.

Are we sure that’s the case? Obviously, none of us were at practices, but from what we saw it was the same guys on the field, even when they were going through the motions and not playing effectively, which was unfortunately most of the season. From a fans perspective, we never got the opportunity to judge for ourselves whether any of these guys were worth a shot. If they weren’t, that’s either a failure in recruitment or development.

Did all of the guys get a fair shake? Maybe Webb, Nimrod, etc. didn’t earn their time. That’s a fair possibility. I tend to believe that guys like Matthews needed more time and more chances, especially given the performance of the guys that were on the field.
Web and Nimrod earned their time, until they dropped too many catchable passes.

Losing a player here and there in the portal is one thing. But it seems to me that when you as a coach are put in a position to have to replace an ENTIRE POSITION GROUP, something is not right in your program! I could understand if this was Huepel's first year and he was cleaning house. But this is coming up year 5 and this is the second year in a row CJH has had to do this! You can't tell me this isn't alarming and something we shouldn't be concerned over! I refuse to fiddle!
When you are in the portal every year as this staff is for starting WR's, TE's, OL to come to UT to start you are having developmental issues! Our leading WR every year are transfer guys. The evidence is right in front of us, but too many refuse to take off their orange tinted glasses and see it.

Get this man his bag! And let him spit next year coach! GBO! Mike, Brazzell, Boo and Staley gonna be fun to watch. Kitselman should be back too. If Boo thinks he Travis Hunter I sure as hell hope he is! Let's go! This isn't rocket science 🤣
Agree. Negotiate a new contract with MMatthews and work Boo into the offense if he is good with that. Keep coaching them with Brazzell and Staley. Coach the three, highly talented freshmen up to playing speed, and we are ready to rock.

The only reason players have leverage is because there's someone willing to pay. What we're seeing is a pure free market. Beautiful isn't it?

There were some drops for sure and that’s going to happen. That said a lot of those drops were very tough catches that aren’t always going to be made. If you judge everything “if you can touch it you can catch it” you aren’t being very realistic. I’ll add, Nico doesn’t throw the most catchable ball even on the routine ones.
Yet another attempt to discredit Nico. Just like with Joe last year, the WRs were not dropping tough catches all the time. More often than not they were good passes. I know you don’t think Nico is that good but this is just wrong. Many times the balls hit them in the hands and they dropped it. And yes if it hits you in the hands you should catch it.

Nico absolutely made bad throws. But acting like it was more on him than the WRs is being disingenuous. But we know that’s how you roll.

I remember nimrod dropping a pretty easy pass. Well not really easy since he was full speed and it was between two guys but he should’ve caught it. I remember other “drops” when guys got hung out to dry. I also remember seeing guys streaking wide open and overthrown by a mile. Two of them in the Florida game alone. There’s a reason all these wrs are jumping ship.

I hope this isn’t true!

ill be honest, other than the percentage of merchandise sales being wack, that story lines up with everything i have ever heard about spyre, and especially that hunter guy.was in the same room with him one time and it didnt take long to figure out that guys name should have been Richard Cranium

Free market doesn’t work in college football.

Free markets either work everywhere or nowhere. You can't pick and choose when it comes to capitalism. Either we live in a free market economy for everyone or we don't. You can't say college athletes are excluded just because it damages your enjoyment of the sport.

Yikes seems like we are getting beat by the likes of Ohio State because some middle man is conning our players. Letting athletic departments directly manage nil in the interest of their athletes seems like a much better arrangement than this mess. I am so tired of the NCAA and their ******** amateurism. College athletics is a racket where everyone but the athlete earns.

So Pope controls that Nimrod drops more balls than he catches?

Professional sports leagues in America are more like socialism
