Are we sure that’s the case? Obviously, none of us were at practices, but from what we saw it was the same guys on the field, even when they were going through the motions and not playing effectively, which was unfortunately most of the season. From a fans perspective, we never got the opportunity to judge for ourselves whether any of these guys were worth a shot. If they weren’t, that’s either a failure in recruitment or development.I’m sure not being good enough to beat out guys who could not get open had nothing to do with it
I've got to do some things so I'll be gone but I want to throw this out:
It looks like Matthews might be leaning toward coming back and it's said he had some legitimate issues with things to work out with Coach Heupel. This is good.
It looks like there might be or have been some dislike among the guys who left for Coach Pope. I'll grant off the bat that this is based on social media that I'm hardly good at nor do I always trust, but there it is.
Scenario: Matthews comes back and Coach Pope leaves. Do we have a situation where it appears a player leveraged a coach out of a job? Whether it's true or not, that's going to be somewhat how it looks. My concern is what if you're another position coach at UT? I don't want a situation where coaches are afraid of players.
We'll likely never know if Matthews comes back and Pope leaves if that was really the case but it has to kind of look that way.
“College” football is dead. Idk what you want to call this new era bs but the game we all grew up watching is dead. So a player has to sit one season behind somebody and they want to bolt. You know what sometimes in life you have to wait your turn for something and pay your dues. They just want the path of least resistance I guess. Good luck to you in the real world after your playing days are over and you have to get a job
The inmates are getting paid as much as the guards. The inmates make the license plates while the guards just watch. The inmates have unlimited Monopoly “get out of jail free” cards in their back pocket while the guards have to ask and beg them to stay. The inmates are in control. The inmates shouldn’t be running the asylum.
Yeah that's the problem we aren't talking about. Every time we put him out there he did nothing but make plays.I'll say this. In Ohio Stadium Matthew's was only one who looked like had the ability if you lined them up side by side Ohio State and Tennessees receivers. He looked like their calbur of athlete. I refuse to give up and just say him leaving wouldn't hurt us. I think his ceiling is high and like it or not do what we have to keep him. Maybe he is the looks like Tarzan plays like Jane but one freshman season hampered by injury to determine that.
Not trying to discredit your position because there may be a little truth to it...However...CLEARLY... we had trouble catching balls that were well thrown this year. Actually....the most I've seen in many years. Good hands is usually a God given talent. Either you can or can't...of course...strength conditioning etc can help for sure but having the hand/eye and feel for snagging balls usually comes with the talent. I'd agree....Nico is definitely still learning (of course he is...He's a freshman). So....prob a little of both. There were some drops for sure and that’s going to happen. That said a lot of those drops were very tough catches that aren’t always going to be made. If you judge everything “if you can touch it you can catch it” you aren’t being very realistic. I’ll add, Nico doesn’t throw the most catchable ball even on the routine ones.
