Not yet. Not as much optimism on our side last I heard.

Figured this would be done if he were staying by today at the latest. There’s a 48hr window but some weirdness about when it starts. Matthews has to complete some things on his end before that window starts.

All kidding aside he did get a lot of playing time last 3 games. He could be a future star, could be a bust or maybe he and Nico don't have the QB receiver chemistry. It may cost a lot to find out for sure, not all 5 stars are created equal.

I don't like it , but I can see him leaving. We had a reputation as an air raid offense from 22 and somewhat through 23. Then we are a run based offense in 24? Why? We have the #1 QB from the recruiting cycle and we are running the ball? None of the receivers on the team looked good this year. Millions of dollars in the draft lost by those who will even go pro. Why don't the receivers look good? Is it the play calling? Is it the QB that he would have to likely work with over the next 2-3 years? Matthews got playing time. A lot of it. so that isn't the issue. He has likely evaluated his long term prospects here and doesn't like what he sees. Being on the inside, he likely has a good handle on the state of the team moving forward. That is the most concerning part.

Heupel said on day one we were a 50-50 run and pass team. We ran the ball great in 22 as well. This was never a air raid concept except to folks that think you can pass every play in the sec. There is nothing wrong wIth our offense except mainly execution.

This was posted on the portal thread. Seems to know what he is talking about. Researched the guy and turns out to be a previous Vol from years ago. Not an insider but seems to love the Vols. Might not be accurate but it's definitely worth looking at.

If Dennis Simmons were to come, this would be huge for the Vols. I went to school with Dennis and used play ball with him in high school. He’s a great guy and a fantastic coach!

Nah, I don’t believe until I see something official. Heup doesn’t strike me as a guy that would interview another coach while one is still on staff.
