Mike Matthews to portal? [He’s staying]

Incorrect..The Oline being ****** pass blockers, Penalties waiting to happen and tons of dropped passes.

Yea the one read and panic qb was never an issue even when he refused to throw the ball on the last play of the game at Arkansas. Rushing to the line and having the lineman stay in their stance for 30 seconds while they try to call a play to keep Nico from disaster had nothing to do with any of the presnap penalties. We may have well just huddled up. The O-line and receivers had their share of mistakes but running a handcuffed offense was 100% due to Nico.

Nico had issues; he’s a first year starter. Put any guy year one in a system where the Oline sucks like that and you have severe issues. Some people act like playing QB in the SEC is easy.

It’s definitely not easy but you expect more from a guy who got paid a ton of money, was hyped up to be the best thing since sliced bread, and had the luxury to sit for a year and a half and learn to be better than he was.

Oh I forgot how much Nico is paid affects his oline’s pass blocking . 😂

Based on upper classman WRs leaving at the drop of a hat. I want all true freshman to get all the snaps through spring camp and fall camp this upcoming year. Let’s see what they can do.

You can’t blame everything on them and everyone else. Even when he’s had time he’s looked lost and simply refuses to throw the ball. At some point you have to question his basic football IQ. Against Mississippi St he just slid down in bounds right before the half instead of throwing the ball away. Why? The last play against Arkansas should have everyone wondering what he was doing. Nothing to lose and he just simply refused to throw it. The receivers weren’t perfect but it’s not like Nico was throwing dimes either.

Why? Bc he’s a damn freshman QB.

Idk about you but I didn’t expect him to set the world on fire this year. Hell I had us winning 8 games before the season bc 1)concerns about the Oline & 2)Nico in his first year. Almost all freshmen qbs are only successful when you surround them with protection and talent which can make them successful. You just cannot adjust to the speed of college football in year one especially when you don’t trust your protection.

This x1000. Under the current landscape, it's super important to understand what you have/don't have in these youngsters. If it were me, I would know definitively if I wanted to pay (and how much) Jackson/Smith/Dodson at the end of the 2025 season. WR and RB are the two easiest positions to play young talent and to plug in transfer talent.

These 4*/5* recruits who don't pan out could easily be replaced by a 3* JR WR at a smaller school who plays above their ranking (at probably less money). You can find these types in the NFL. College scouting and ultimately fielding the absolute best roster with a set budget is the key to all college programs moving forward. CFB has become more scouting/budget based than the NFL considering there is open free agency of any player every year.

Just using the term “freshman” shows your argument is disingenuous. A pee wee player knows there’s nothing to lose on the last play of the game when you have to have a td. It’s not like it was a midfield Hail Mary.

I believe the Arkansas play everyone keeps mentioning, Nico had 2 options. 1. Throw the ball and recieve an illegal man downfield flag, thus ending the game. 2. Attempt to run out of bounds in hope you can keep 1 second on the clock and another chance. In that scenario, Nico made the right choice, just didn't have the time needed.

When do they normally throw the flag for a man downfield? Regardless he’s not that aware and throwing it was our only chance. Catch it for a td and redo the play even if there is a man downfield. The run out of bounds excuse is absurd.

When do they ever call a defense for false start? We had an olineman past the line of scrimmage not engaged on a block. The refs called some pretty questionable calls against us all year, i have no doubt they'd hesitate to call an actual legit penalty against us at such a critical time.

As far as I know the defense never gets called for a false start.

If Josh Calls a timeout at 45 seconds we are never in that position. His HC failed him in that situation

They called us on it one game this year. They didn't say false start, i can't remember exactly, but the other team committed the false start but we got the flag without even going in the neutral zone because our guy moved.

I know what you mean you just worded it wrong. They’ve been highly inconsistent on that call all year. The defense shifts and the line jumps. Georgia doesn’t all game and no call. I think LSU did it and it was a flag. Even saw a defensive guy simply flinch and they called him with the flag.

There would not have been an extra down. That only applies to defensive penalties.

There was a video interview by Nico where he explained the play. There was a bad snap and he didn't have control of ball, he panicked and tried to run it not conscious of the play clock.

Simple mistake.
