Mike Matthews

The good thing now is we have 3 weeks for Thornton and Bru to heal up. But definitely good to see Matthews make the most of his opportunity.

Thornton is way too fragile for my liking. A huge asset when healthy but hurt way to much. Pat Ryan said on the broadcast today responding to Swain saying Thornton asked to come out because of his stomach. Pat says Jason did you just say he was out with a tummy ache "? 🤣🤣

Love Pat (get off my lawn) Ryan

He looks like the best all-around receiver on our roster. I have no idea why Huepel isn't playing him more. Every time he's gotten an opportunity he's made plays. Hopefully Bru and Donte are back for the playoffs. But Mike should still get more snaps even if they're healthy.

He's too good to keep off the field IMO.
It’s been 4 years, folks.

It’s time for y’all to learn the correct spelling of your own coach’s name.

And Squirrell (and Sampson)
We really need this break.

With the emergence of MM, I’d like to see the staff use these three weeks to work Brazzell into the slot. It’s such an integral part of this offense, but we don’t have a slot WR right now with Squirrel being injured. His shoulder isn’t going to heal until he has surgery.

Work Brazzell into the slot (where he caught the winning TD against Bama), and use Bru, Thornton, and Matthews on the outside.

If you dont know why MM didn’t start all year, then you dont know this offense and its complexity. A receiver typically has 2 and sometimes 3, routes he could run on a play based off the defense. If a receiver runs the wrong route mid play, it can be disaster. Takes time to learn

Do you know why he got so many targets today?

Because he blocked his tail off today!!

He’s going to be a problem for the SEC
If you remember back Squirrel got his most targets vs Vandy his Freshman year last regular season game hard for Freshman to jump experience in this O, IMO Matthews > Squirrel or a much higher ceiling I should say

With the amount of injuries we had, we needed someone to step up. Mike Matthews is going to be a problem for defenses years to come. He looks every bit The five Star prospect he was
Definitely a bright spot cause our receiver room has not been good this year outside Thornton

They have really been the weakest link on the whole team. We really don’t have a go get me a catch kinda receiver in that room. Mike Mathew’s may become that guy. I think it has hurt us all year long. Our receivers have not won the one on one battles since 2022.
