Military badges, coins, insignia, etc....

I was going to air assault school but the USAF wouldnt let me wear the badge so I declined the trip.

I just wanted the extra flair!

Two of my guys were "jumpers", one a master, and both were slated to go to Air Assault and were told it was an authorized badge, at least it was in 05.

I was going in 2000. I was told I couldn't wear it on my BDU's. I didnt ask about my service dress since I never wore it. The guys who went never wore it on their BDU's either. Maybe it changed after a few years?

I remember seeing air assault and airborne as early as the late 90s.

Probably just your chain of command.

A lot of my comrades tried to get air assault badges, retroactively, since we invented it in the 60s.........but to no avail.

I wasn't old enough to go, but I sure remember it on the evening news - scared me to death as a kid. I had a lot of relatives there. Two Uncles were Jolly Green Pilots, 1 Uncle in the USAF setting up comm sites, 1 Uncle was a Marine, and a cousin in the USN Para rescue.

I have great respect and admiration for you and all who served in Vietnam.

God bless you and Welcome Home, sir!

What does the symbol above the stripes indicate? USN insignia I have never been able to figure out.
