A chilling confession from a captured ISIS fighter has shed light on how the terrorist group intended to exploit the vulnerabilities of the U.S. border with Mexico, using English speakers and westerners to take advantage of smuggling routes and target financial institutions.

Seized ISIS fighter Abu Henricki, a Canadian citizen with dual citizenship with Trinidad, last month said that he was sought out by the violent insurgency’s leadership to attack the U.S from a route starting in Central America, according to a study by the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (ICSVE) and published in Homeland Security Today.

“ISIS has organized plots in Europe with returnees so it seems entirely plausible that they wanted to send guys out to attack. The issue that makes a North American attack harder is the travel is more difficult from Syria,” Anne Speckhard, who co-conducted the study as the director of ICSVE and Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University, told Fox News. “So the idea that they would instead use people who were not known to their own governments as having joined ISIS might make it possible for them to board airplanes.”

Dims have made this about abusing poor people trying to escape a hostile environment. Border security is all about keeping a hostile environment on the other side of our borders. Anyone who thought that terrorists haven't realized they could actually bring an army across our southern border is an idiot. On Wednesday afternoon in Mexico City, police detained Irineo Mujica, director of the U.S.-Mexico migrant aid group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, and Cristobal Sanchez, a migrant rights activist, according to Alex Mensing, a coordinator with the group.

Pueblo Sin Fronteras has for several years guided annual caravans through Mexico, seeking to protect migrants and to advocate for their rights along a 2,000-mile trail ridden with criminals and corrupt officials who prey on lone travelers through kidnapping, extortion and other forms of assault.

The real question - why has Mexico never done anything before when they obviously knew who (by organization and individual names) was responsible for the caravans?

I do think that Trump's threat probably triggered this move by Mexico, but I also think it's probably symbolic. We'll see, but 6000 Mexican NG against a mob of tens thousands doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that the Mexican government really intends to be serious.

The Jews throughout Nazi occupied Europe faced ethnic genocide. Jews in what became the Soviet Union faced pogroms ... again discrimination at the very least and generally just a different style of ethnic genocide. They were decidedly not part of the ruling class.

The Americas south of the US are generally all Hispanic ... certainly Guatemala, Honduras, Columbia, and other places run by gangs and cartels. They've had at least a couple of centuries to clean up their act, but corruption is still a way of life. So, yeah, I see a major difference when one group is isolated, marked, and mistreated (to put it kindly) because of their religion; while the other (with no anomalous racial/ethnic/religious identity) can seem to get it's act together to run but not to fight.
