I think it's complete BS to justify anything because of what the rest of the world is doing, but I guess that's enough of a compass for some people.

You can continue current theme of restrictive laws and they'll only work if we pair them with Draconian enforcement. Many politicians and people don't have the stomach for that, nor are they excited to potentially be on the wrong side of history, nor are we sure that Draconian enforcement will even work. So I'm not even sure that's an actual viable solution. Trump tried harsher enforcement, if it worked, it only worked in the short run and now here we are feeling the backlash and it feels like things are worse than ever, judging by the screeching.

The other option is to open up legal immigration to mitigate the problems associated with illegal immigration. It doesn't matter that this would make things better. It's not politically viable.

I can’t imagine donors not having an interest in unlimited labor. It would be in their interests to maintain the status quo as more illegal workers can lead to paying less as there’s more competition. Why pay minimum wage when you can pay someone even less and not have to worry about insuring them?

America’s bipartisan political interest for foreigners entering our country will probably be included in a case study 100 years from now on why America failed.

I just think you're completely over-estimating their influence and if they have influence why not use their influence to get visa workers? I would guess almost nobody is paying less than minimum wage, except maybe in a few places where we're talking $15 min

If we wanted to stop immigration, we would’ve stopped it by now. We could’ve restricted visas and fined companies for people who didn’t use E-Verify and/or used illegals. We don’t do either because the real shot callers don’t want it.


We had a Republican house/senate when Trump was in office and nothing happened because their donors are their owners, and what they say goes.

You can't "stop" immigration without suppressing immense amounts of freedom which is not the American way. The people won't tolerate what it would take. Illegal immigration is an incredibly complicated problem and the solutions for restrictionists aren't simple or cheap. Government is not good at solving complicated problems. It is really good at restricting rights and wasting money.
