This policy is clearly in violation of the statute, which states that anyone can apply for asylum at a designated port of arrival (or anywhere else they want). More importantly, Congress specifically left the asylum category without a cap. This is different than nearly every other type of immigration, including refugees, which have limits. Indeed, there used to be a quota on how many asylees could adjust status to legal permanent resident status, but Congress repealed even that in 2005.

Congress unequivocally wanted no limits on asylum, yet the government has created one anyway.

Another told the Atlantic that she crossed the border illegally with her daughter solely because they “were turned away by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at the Paso del Norte port of entry.” In other words, the policy encourages otherwise law-abiding people to break the law. Once they cross, their asylum claim is finally heard. Border Patrol arrested her and took away her daughter, while the Department of Justice criminally prosecuted her.

DHS complains about a lack of “resources” to process asylum seekers, which force it to turn away people at ports. But this claim is baseless. For one thing, its policy results in them needing to arrest, detain, and prosecute the tens of thousands who cross illegally between ports of entry—which the president’s memo admits is more expensive.

Moreover, the ports process more than a half a million people every day, a few hundred asylum seekers would barely be noticed.

With regard to what? Medical exclusion? If you’re saying just let them in that’s F-ing stupid and is indeed counter to our policy also.

We have to absolutely consider their asylum application. We don’t have roll over and die and just grant it.

I’ve stated multiple times we should honor valid asylum requests. It’s in accordance with international law and the correct thing to do.

I thought the proposal on the table was limiting asylum seekers whom claim it after being caught illegally in the country. To which I say Hell to the Yes on that! However if they are actually disallowing asylum seekers with no grounds at the border then that’s in conflict. If they’re quickly calling their asylum claim BS and refusing it that is an additional matter.

Amazing. So the MSM has been following the SECOND and THIRD caravans...and ignoring the 1st. 10,000 people caravan who are now entering California. Wow.

They deride trump for sending troops to the border, including the lib posters here..saying the migrants couldnt possibly get here until arpund Christmas...LG...when they are actually arriving right now and crossing the border. Why did our military not see them from aerial footage and beat them to tijuana? That i dont understand. Our troops, from what i have read, are many miles east of Tijuana, where the 2nd caravan is expected to try and enter our country.

Sex Offenders, Gang Members Apprehended near Texas Border

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents stopped migrants with histories of violence, gang membership, and sex offenses from successfully making their way into the U.S. interior. The arrests occurred in multiple incidents over the Veteran’s Day holiday weekend.

Agents assigned to the McAllen Border Patrol Station arrested a migrant who illegally crossed the border near Mission, Texas, on the afternoon of November 12. During an immigration interview, the agents learned that the migrant came from El Salvador. A criminal history check revealed SEXUAL abuse of a CHILD or minor. A Washington, D.C. court convicted the man on the charge and sentenced him to 180 days in confinement, according to Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol officials.

Later that day, McAllen Station agents apprehended a Guatemalan national near Sullivan City. The agents arrested the illegal immigrant and transported him for processing and a background investigation. Agents found court records that indicated the Guatemalan received a conviction from a court in Los Angeles, California, in 2016 for LASCIVIOUS acts with a CHILD. The court sentenced the man to one year in confinement.

Two days earlier, McAllen Station agents arrested a Mexican man near Mission, Texas. A biometric background investigation revealed the Grant County, Washington, Sheriff’s Office arrested the illegal immigrant from Mexico on a charge of RAPE of a CHILD. The Washington State court convicted the man and sentenced him to serve nine-months confinement.

On Friday morning, agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint, located on U.S. Highway 281 about 80 miles north of the U.S. border with Mexico, arrested a U.S. citizen for allegedly attempting to smuggle a group of 22 illegal immigrants. The agents took the group of migrants to the station for a background investigation. During a records check, agents learned that one of the men received a conviction from a Salvadoran court for AGGRAVATED HOMICIDE. The court sentenced the man to 18 years in prison.

And finally, the La Joya Police Department contacted the McAllen Border Patrol Station on Thursday about a failed human smuggling attempt. Agents responded to the scene and identified two of the subjects as illegal immigrants. The agents transported the migrants to the station for a background check that revealed one of the men to be a known member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.
