Milton moving forward

Some of Milton's throws makes me wonder if he could hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle.

This could be the time for Sampson to shine. He hits the hole very quick and if he has learned the protections, could take a lot of pressure off Milton.

This will be a good test game for Milton. This board has debated for months whether he'll be our guy next year. Well this is his chance. Vanderbilt won't be as tough as who he'll face in a Bowl game. Let's see what he's got. Has Heupel coached him up? We'll soon see

Vandy has playing better. Not the same Vandy from early in the season. I wouldn’t give a 100% guarantee with how our defense played last week.

I think we should beat them, but I’m more concerned with how we play. If we come in and play well overall but maybe they make some plays (they are actually really good at generating fumbles this year iirc), we fight back but don’t quite win, it sucks, but is not the craziest thing in the world. If they throttle us, look like a top 10 team playing an unranked opponent, and it looks like our guys didn’t show up prepared and adjustments aren’t even being attempted… well, that’s probably not a good sign.

He just needs to be smart with the football and not force anything. Use his legs when it isn't there and slide next time instead of lowering his shoulder. I really don't want to see the true freshman out there.
It wouldn’t be the true freshman. It would be one of two walkons. Tayven Jackson broke his collar bone against Akron so it would be Navy Schuler or Gaston Moore.

Injured. Not sure his status. He hurt his shoulder in the last game he got in. He was shown wearing what looked like a sling under a jacket on the sidelines last week against Mizzou. I wonder if Heupel addresses that this week since he should now be the #2.
Thanks for the info. I get on here every day, but I don't keep it on this site. Just on long enough to check my emails, VolNation, then off.

#1 - Keep the defense off the field by dominating the run game. If we win the toss...take the ball first and score. This may be a track meet.
#2 - Quit making so many mistakes and don't get the officiating started by mouthing back at them.
#3 - Keep pressure on their QB. We have proven repeatedly that our secondary can't out run/cover their receivers.

You know, our running game has been good. I think so much attention has been on Hooker and Hyatt that it has been easy to ignore. I really like our tailbacks and have faith they can keep the ball moving. Only caveat is if Milton starts overthrowing everyone and the defense loses the fear of the pass and loads the box.

I hope Joe can get it for sure I am a fan of his work ethic and strength . If he can just get those overthrows and short fast balls to a minimum he will be fine , Go Vols and Go Milton .

Squirrel, Hyatt, Keyton and Tillman. Again, and again, and again Saturday.

Milton’s a big dude, like 6’5 240. I say we should utilize a lot of designed QB runs, read option, rpo, etc… With the occasional deep shot.

Wait what happened to Tayven Jackson?

He's out. Milton is only QB on scholarship currently healthy. After him it's Gaston Moore and Navy Shuler.

So maybe a few QB designed scrambles to keep the defense honest, but probably going to slide or run out of bounds rather than take hits.

With who is behind Milton at qb, I would not expect to see a lot of QB runs.
Depends how much the coaching staff is willing to risk to beat Vanderbilt. If Vandy goes all-in on stopping the run our only option at that point would be for Milton to sit in the pocket and beat them through the air.

Well that's not good. Was already nervous about Vandy (unimaginable a week ago).

Well...yeah. That or our O-Line just imposes their will on Vandy's D-Line and we run it down their throats and wear them out w/out tempo. Their rushing D is ranted 75th and gives up an average of 153.5 yards per game. Total defense is 125th (even worse than ours at #100)

But either way, the point was designed QB runs being a bad idea w/no scholarship depth behind Milton. It wasn't don't throw the ball.

And USC jr. ranked 85th in total defense and we still lost by 25, and that was with a garbage time touchdown. And our 1st string QB in.

Like I said, it depends how creative and how much the coaching staff is willing to risk.

But sure, maybe our up-tempo offense will go out there and impose their will running the ball, since we’ve been doing that all year.
