Milton our qb next year?

Wait I thought you said Richardson from UF was the best QB in the 24 draft

I had Richardson coming out this year. He's draft eligible. With that said, I've been more impressed by Bryce Young lately. He's risen to being the #1 QB in this year's draft.

Show us some video evidence of Milton's mental failures. Break it down for us hossfly. Explain the coverages and exactly what routes our receivers were running. It ought to be easy for you since he hadn't played but a couple of games. While your at it send a copy to Coach Hype. Include his overthrows this year too of you don't mind.

I mean…I’m not going to go try to locate clips but you’re right…it should be easy to find. He holds onto the ball too long and doesn’t feel pressure. In fact, on the play he was injured on last year againt Pitt…the defender that sacked him (which resulted in a lost fumble) came from way off the line and rushed right down the middle.
I think he was sacked and fumbled 3 times in only about 60 total snaps last year. Bizarre any of our fans would disagree with that assessment. Also, he overthrew wide open receivers again and agin and again. Do you need me to locate and posts those clips for you as well? He’s a terrible qb. And another year in our system won’t help much. Hopefully someone else wins the job

I could be wrong, but rather than think our offensively minded head coach who was a star QB can’t evaluate quarterbacks and will arbitrarily pick someone who is not the best for the job from what we have available at that time, I tend to think:

1. The quarterbacks we have available will compete for the position. Whoever is doing best will get the job.
2. That happened last year too, Milton won the job because he was performing the best when the decision was made.

Hendon Hooker continued to work on it and improve even though he wasn’t the starter. When he got his chance all of that work paid off, and he’s made the most of it.

I don’t think our coaches are the the misuse your talent type we have seen before.

Col, I don’t know you at all, but I’m betting you could have at least went 4 of 7 with 85 yard with a pick in the end zone on that bunch.
Not many D1ers could’ve made the throw to Squirrel with just a simple wrist flick. Honestly Milton has EVERYTHING, except for quick decision making. If he gets that corrected, it won’t be much of a drop off. If he doesn’t, uh oh. It’ll be FAHR HEUPEL, when we’re 4-2 next season half way thru.

Pretty weak, if you put it out there you need to back it up with something other than your own interpretations of game conditions. You are pushing your credibility scores further down with every weak response to a factual challenge. Got any quotes from any coaches indicating they are not happy with his progression in the system, for example to indicate they think he is holding the ball too long? Hanging in there and going deep in progressions to find a receiver creating a window is not inherently bad. Wish both of our QB's started out last year with an OL performing like they are this year.... did not happen.

Both guys took some tough shots last year. Heck, he would not have been in the Ole MIss game last year if HH was not taken out after a tough shot. Got a failing score for him too? Go back and watch the clip of THE play and see how he was flushed out of the pocket and forced into a scramble mode having to spin and duck and run to space with at least three guys still in pursuit as he approached the LOS along the sideline with his head still up. Not on the OL season highlight film with them defeating all 5 of our guys. You will also notice the trailing official is not even beginning to call him OOB as he is contacted high and hard by a defender. Did I miss any facts here?

Just a thought in regards to the future; Milton will have an entire off season, just like HH to get used to his throwing to "his" receivers/backs which include; Bru, Keaton, Squirrel, Walker, Calloway, Dylan, Whitehead and Williams! Are you kidding me! He's gonna break HHs records next year!!!!

I dunno if he will be as good as HH or not, but I’m sure he’s been working on it while he has been the backup and will continue to do so. I’d be surprised if he hasn’t gotten a lot better already in the last year. Just because he wasn’t perfect playing in a glorified scrimmage mostly with other backups doesn’t mean a ton.

If he wins the job by the time next season comes then that means the staff believe he gives us the best chance to win at that point in time. If they go with someone else, same thing. If he starts and they make a change later on, same thing.

They can make make mistakes, but this idea that they are going to purposefully play someone who they don’t think is the best choice doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Credentials please!
I saw what I saw from XX3, there were open receivers and he didn't see them, my point is more that Hendon makes the right read, that's why most of the time when he throws the receiver looks so wide open, Milton had those situations just like Hendon does, the difference is Hendon sees them and Milton doesn't, you can bandstand for him if you want but he's shown it in every game he's played in so far, I will give him credit for improving his deep throws tho.

Let's see 16 for 21 360 yds....4 Tds....0 int...72% comp.... 270% qbr....all with back up receivers ...but he doesn't make the reads, holds ball to long, and just doesn't have it. Damn you are some more QB guru.

And you are some bullsh*tter, what were his stats in this game? sure he has came in for cleanup duty in a couple games this year and thrown a couple nice deep throws but since you are trying to muddle the pot to make a point, this is the only game this year where he got significant playing time and against a FCS team and he did not look great, I never claimed to be a Damn Quarterback guru but im not blind Chief, you seem to be more impressed with his potential than anything else. You dont like my opinon? Be sure and get the F right off my post.

Milton benched at Michigan as the starter, he was benched at Tennessee as the starter. Suddenly he's going to materialize into a great P5 QB? gmafb

His stats are better than Bryce Young's, he must be legit, wonder why Alabama didn't snatch him up.

All the QB coaches in these forums. I feel like Milton is getting the JG treatment and he hasn’t even played enough football to deserve it. He came last year IN THE FALL. Got adjusted to the system in a month or two and went straight into the games. He’s had a year to adjust to the system and his stats look great. Made one bad play against Ole Miss… (he made some good plays right before that play). And now the sky is falling. Also, why are we wanting him to truck people? He’s a QB… He should be scrambling and sliding unless he needs a first down or TD in specific situations. This whole thread is weird man.

You nailed. Weird. People in here saying he overthrows everybody, as if last year is the only thing that matters and he hasn't been hitting everyone deep this year. He played perfectly fine Saturday in a vanilla offense and people acting like he was Jon Crompton vs. UCLA in 2009.

Milton may or may not be the starter next year. Maybe Jackson develops and beats him out. Maybe Nico is that special. But I know that whoever starts will be really good...because they'll have to be really good to beat out Milton in his 3rd year in the system. And Heupel is coaching them.

There was guy from Virginia Tech who was benched a few times too. Wish I could remember his name...

He does have good stats this year. He was 4/7 on Saturday. Missed 3 throws in a game where guys were getting player experience after we had put the thing away at half-time. You guys act like he threw 3 interceptions instead of had 3 incompletions.

I dunno if he will be our guy next year either, but if he is it's because he won the job and the coaches think he gives them the best chance to win.

For those who remain Milton haters, we get it. May his past sins never be forgotten, nor forgiven. May faith in CJH to turn him into a quality QB, never be entertained. May his recent signs of improvement be ignored as fake news, and what is seen as an optical illusion. We get it.

Im not against him, I just dont think he is gonna be our starter, honestly two of the four passes he completed were for a 1 yard gain and the other a 1 yard loss, he really only threw 3 good balls and played the entirety of the 3rd quarter and half the fourth with one score, you would expect him to light UT Martin up but he didnt, he was quick to scramble, had open receivers but dumped the ball off, I really looked forward to seeing him shine but I was disappointed, the opportunities were there he didnt capitalize. Thats all im saying on it.

He only thru it 7 times and had 2 scores . He wasn't out there to light it up he was out there to run the ball and eat the clock. One thing everyone should remember Heupel is great at developing quarterbacks.Their might be weaknesses on defense, special teams, etc but given a little time to sort things out he will get the right QB on the field. Milton has improved his accuracy considerably since last yr,given a yr to work with him he should improve even more. I personally hope he is the man next yr because Nico,Jackson or anybody else are probably going to have some growing pains.

You the one hossfly claiming his not smart enough to play. Back your Opinion up with facts. Facts are he was 4 for 7 for 135 yds and a TD. 96% qbr. against UTM which was better than Hendons. You might not be blind but I would check about getting some glasses. As far as running the ball.....Jackson got hurt can't play this week cause he ran the ball. Now what if that would have happened to Milton too? You think just maybe the Coaches know this s*** happens? We were up 50 points hossfly!

The possibility also exists that Milton has gotten better than the first 2-3 games of last year. He can get better on mechanics and get more mentally proficient in the offense. He probably will never have the deep throw accuracy of Hooker, but who does. He'll have the Spring and Training Camp to try and improve. It's unlikely that Nico or Tayven would be better vs. UVA to start 2023. That said, if he struggles, I'm sure Heupel will play the QB that gives the team the best chance to win.

Honestly, the way Milton handled being demoted to #2, and the comments Hendon has said towards him really make me want to see him succeed. How many kids would’ve left after the Ole Miss game? A whole lot. He stuck with it and didn’t pour. He continued to be the definition of “teammate” and seems to be as happy as anyone for Hendon’s success. I have to pull for a kid like that.

If not he'll be starting at another P5 school the following season. Bryce Young at Bama played his freshman year and it worked out very well. Nico is at the same high school and their high school coach seems to think Nico is as good or perhaps better than Bryce Young. The best way to drive Nico off The Hill is to bench him and put a less skilled player or players in front of him.
Bruce Young sat his freshman year. He redshirted.

Well first off "Hossfly" I never said he wasnt smart enough to play, I said I dont think he is gonna be our starting quarterback next year and I based it on what I saw and what I have saw in the past, I never questioned his smarts if I question anything its his being able to function under pressure, I posted my opinion which is what I was supposed to do since Im not the coach and you arent either so all we have is opinions to give in a damn thread titled "Joe Milton our next qb?" and what is your's btw? All I have saw you do so far is rip apart what I said and toss out insults along with useless stats and smartazz jibberish. Why are you so offended I dont think Milton is the second coming of Peyton Manning anyway? Im not ripping the kid, I hope he succeeds or more over I hope he thrives and wins every game next year but I dont think he will, I think next year will be a rebuilding year, I think Nico will get more starts since he will probably be the heir apparent and they will be looking to 2024 and again its my opinion, your free to yours "Hossfly".
