Milton our qb next year?

Well first off "Hossfly" I never said he wasnt smart enough to play, I said I dont think he is gonna be our starting quarterback next year and I based it on what I saw and what I have saw in the past, I never questioned his smarts if I question anything its his being able to function under pressure, I posted my opinion which is what I was supposed to do since Im not the coach and you arent either so all we have is opinions to give in a damn thread titled "Joe Milton our next qb?" and what is your's btw? All I have saw you do so far is rip apart what I said and toss out insults along with useless stats and smartazz jibberish. Why are you so offended I dont think Milton is the second coming of Peyton Manning anyway? Im not ripping the kid, I hope he succeeds or more over I hope he thrives and wins every game next year but I dont think he will, I think next year will be a rebuilding year, I think Nico will get more starts since he will probably be the heir apparent and they will be looking to 2024 and again its my opinion, your free to yours "Hossfly".
Reading your posts Sounds like the Smartass jibberish is coming from you.

Maybe the only mistake heupel has made thus far is choosing Milton prior to the start of last season…as opposed to playing multiple qbs to begin the year allowing someone to win the job against real competition. It was a mistake. I know a lot of people will say I wasn’t at practice and how dare me try to make an observation only a coach should make bla bla. But, we have all seen times when a coach handles a qb competition early in the year by playing multiple guys until one has clearly established himself. That’s what should’ve happened.

Anyway, my point for bringing this up is most around the program seem to believe Milton will be our quarterback next season. Kind of a placeholder until Jackson or Nico can take the reins. I hope that is not the case. Milton is not going to just all of the sudden become a good qb. He doesn’t lack knowledge of the offense or need to develop physically. He possesses all the physical ability and is an intelligent/high character kid. What he doesn’t possess is pocket awareness and moxie.

I expected him to pick a part that defense today with pinpoint accurate throws and lead three or four scoring drives. I realize we were run heavy but he just isn’t good.

Playing QB is all about Moxie, pocket awareness, understanding distance and timing, accuracy, and understanding when to move the sticks and went to take a shot. There were several situations Milton threw low percentage balls on third down when he could have easily ran for the first down allowing the offense another set of downs.

Anyway, for all the amazing decision heupel makes day in/day out he seems to have a flaw when it comes to a kid like Milton. I think he becomes Infatuated with these physical capabilities and thinks he can coach the Moxie/pocket awareness and Savviness into him. But he can’t. Who cares if your quarterback can do backflips? Or throw a ball 80 yards? It’s totally irreverent. I hope he allows a competition between Jackson and Nico to play out. But I don’t think that’ll happen. I think we’ll see Milton out there to start the year.
Not a mistake. Hooker didn’t distinguish himself in spring practice. So he got Milton. And Milton may have wanted something resembling a deal to start for HIM to come here. Obviously Hooker did not have something like that.

There was guy from Virginia Tech who was benched a few times too. Wish I could remember his name...

He does have good stats this year. He was 4/7 on Saturday. Missed 3 throws in a game where guys were getting player experience after we had put the thing away at half-time. You guys act like he threw 3 interceptions instead of had 3 incompletions.

I dunno if he will be our guy next year either, but if he is it's because he won the job and the coaches think he gives them the best chance to win.

One of those incompletions was an elite NFL throw to the back corner of the end zone that was too hot for Holiday to handle, but is a TD in the NFL.

Nico is so good, I don't think Milton can beat him out..however maybe he comes in and needs more time to develop, if that's the case it will probably be Milton. Dude has a cannon, if he can get his accuracy dialed in he'd be dangerous

I want to believe in Milton, and though he is the clear front-runner for the #1, I don't see him having much success like HH unless he can develop some touch on his passes.

You've hurt my feelings. I'm taking my ball and going home!

Nico is really thin like all freshmen QBs. He’s going to need at least a year in strength and conditioning to be ready. Milton bridges the gap in the meantime and Jackson probably moves on.

This isn’t going to go over well, but with Nico’s flashiness and apparent ego I’m concerned he’ll struggle to effectively lead a grown group of men.

It can be done, see Joe Namath, but he’s setting some ridiculously high expectations for himself by showing up to camps in pajamas and playing with sunglasses. If he doesn’t live up to those expectations immediately, he’s going to get a big serving of humble pie and likely struggle a bit.

Additionally, the team is going to take in the persona of their QB. There’s another thread discussing how Alabama has lost its edge in terms of physicality and toughness. Can’t help but wonder if it has anything to do with having finesse QBs since post-Hurts. I don’t follow them closely so idk but Tua & Young don’t strike me as “tough guys” the way Hooker and Milton do. Nico doesn’t either.

*bracing for impact* flame away

That’s definitely possible. I just don’t think he starts for while anyway even if he does work out. At least a year or so. I’m kind of hoping Milton ends up working out for next year but I don’t really have a strong opinion either way on it.

Harrison Bailey also looked great in HS. Many here (including myself) were hoping he would start right away and be the next Peyton. You should check your feelings on Nico starting next year.

You mean like the TD pass he threw to Keyton, or the TD pass he threw to Merrill earlier this year… his touch has improved significantly from last year; he’s gonna be fine as the starter next year

Erik Ainge started as a true freshman and beat UGA in Athens. And he was only a four-star recruit. Don’t rule out Nico starting right away. Milton has the arm but is not a starting-caliber SEC QB.

He wasn’t last year... a lot can change in two years with a coach like Heupel. Heck, where was Hooker two years ago?

What if Milton can work on intentionally under throwing the ball as opposed to overthrowing? The possibilities are endless……….

Milton is 16-22 (one incompletion was the hail mary vs Bama that was actually very well thrown) for 360 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, he also has 44 yards rushing on 4 carries. This while playing mostly with 2nd and 3rd stringers and people are somehow seeing some kind of big faults in his game to the extent they think he's a completely lost cause? Hooker's QB rating on the season is 187. Milton's QB rating this season is off the charts ridiculous at 270. I've seen nothing from him that doesn't look dramatically improved this season.

Not sure why people are so dismissive of him and are insulting his intelligence. Milton graduated from Michigan in three years and will leave UT with a second degree. He also picked the offense up quickly and that's why he initially won the job.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't play well next season. Probably not Hooker level but we've really never seen any QB here play at the level Hooker is right now. 44 touchdowns and 4 interceptions is a stat like you'd see from prime Aaron Rodgers. Milton will likely play and put up big numbers, every Heupel QB does for the most part. If something happens and it's a freshman, his freshman QBs have also put up big numbers.

Milton's IQ vs any if the dumbasses bashing him...well they would be embarrassed is my guess.
