Mimi Groves/UT revoked admission

Nice an actual attempt at civil convo!

I think it’s incredibly complicated. We cannot ban the word and I absolutely understand the sensitivity to it. There seem to be other words, like the b word, that people have changed the meaning and it’s now a term of their community. I just look at it as not my place to determine and I try to refrain from passing judgment on those who do.

If you feel it's wrong for one set of people to use the word, then how is it a stretch to say no one should use the word? You're already making a judgement, so why not go all the way with it? Seems like a cop out to say only white people should refrain from using it, especially when the word is so prominent in music lyrics. If the word is so hurtful, the black community should lead by example and refrain from using it themselves.

You need to grow up and act like an adult. You’re just not capable of giving an intelligent adult response. Anytime someone replies to your posts, you have to come back with some childish and ignorant response. Like “ weak and boring, do better” or “who cares, we live in America” or “ what’s your excuse”. Do your parents know that you’re posting on a message board? Because I find it hard to believe your any older than 12 yrs old.

As you throw insults you hypocrite. Look 2 posts above yours 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

You have extreme perception issues if you believe I am "worked up".

Ok.
I can't see your facial or body language, so the only evidence I have wiiare your words. Regardless, I'm still arising early tomorrow and making first tracks. Pacific time is so accommodating. The Vols game will be done at 8 tonight

I simply disagree. Something I say can mean something completely different coming out of my mouth than if you said it. A white person saying it to a black person means something different than another black person saying it to their community. To me it’s easy to understand.

So do white people get to choose words that only they can use? Should black people be told they can't call white people "honkeys", crackers", "rednecks", etc.? I think it's extremely lazy if you really want change to go about it so half-heartedly. Lots of people scream for change, but very few want to put in the work. Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world". I promise you, if the black community policed themselves on saying the word as much as they police other races for saying the word, it would be a lot less prevalent. Believe it or not, many do not look at people and see color. And when they hear, they definitely do not hear in color. The very popularity of the word in the black community, and specifically in music, is why it is still so prominent, not racism.

Well if a black person said honkey, cracker, redneck, etc. I don’t think they’d be doing it as a term of endearment and therefore shouldn’t say it. To this point on this very board I see people calling each other ‘necks.

I think it’s lazy to assume everything has to be a certain way.

I wonder if Joe thinks Kamala is the second black, mainstream, CLEAN, and articulate politician.

The difference is not many really get offended when someone of another ethnicity calls them a honkey, cracker, or redneck like a black person gets offended when the n-word comes into play. How often do you see a black person accused of racism? How often do you see a white person accused of it? And I'm not talking the definition of racism that involves being a minority. I'm talking about hating someone because of the color of their skin. How often do black people get called out for hating white people? It's a rarity because of the myth that their hate is justified. There's nothing justified about hating an individual who has not committed a transgression against you.

And I never said everyone has to be a certain way. I'm a firm believer of individuality. Be who you are. But if you don't want the word used, why use it? That makes little to no sense. If the black community really wants to stop its usage, they would begin by eliminating it from their own vocabulary. By perpetuating it, they are the ones teaching it to the younger generation, many of who have no true understanding of its meaning or the weight it carries. I seriously doubt the young lady in this case truly understood the weight of the word, and she certainly didn't think it would ruin her life to this degree.

The vocabulary of most young people is made up of words they commonly hear. Where is the n-word most prevalent? Music, movies, and comedy. Not to mention, the young are more likely to speak without thinking.

You should stop giving advice to people on drug use.
Are you a person "on drug use" ? MJ is natural, and when used in moderation is far less harmful than alcohol or even worse, tobacco. Heeding YOUR advice as to what I should do would be stupid

Desperation time. Calling out my sentence structure. Perhaps there are more drugs you can recommend. I think you have already suggested Zoloft, MJ, and Xanax. Sounds like you have needed much assistance in your life.

Well the n word isn’t in the same category with the others. I can understand the outrage. I think black people and their kids know exactly what it means and the history.

I see people calling black people reverse racist every single day on Fox News and on this board. Especially on Tucker’s show.

You are saying if white people can’t use it, neither should black people. That is absolutely saying something should be one way.

Black people shouldn‘t hate white people or vice versa. It’s not justified. There are underlying tensions between the races however. Look at this thread. Some idiot called me a tar baby because I hurt their feelings.

As I said initially, it’s a complicated issue and I think the answer is empathy, consideration, and conversation.
