Mimi Groves/UT revoked admission

Can I ask why all of the people on here seem to hate UT? You're posting on a site dedicated to UT sports. Is it that you only support the sports teams and otherwise you have no use for the university? I think it would be interesting to see how many of the haters actually got a degree from UT.

In addition, a lot of the comments assert that UT is dominated by liberal professors who push an agenda in the classroom. Maybe it's what I majored in, but while I earned three degrees from UT (in two separate decades), I never had a professor push his/her political views on me. We were too busy learning how to evaluate balance sheets, write computer programs and perform cost analysis, not to mention calculus, statistics and chemistry.

BTW, from what I've read this person wanted to be a cheerleader and had been accepted on the team which acceptance was revoked. OK I can see that. The team was #1 in the country and, while surprising, they recruit kids to the team. If a coach feels that a player's/ performer's past conduct/ statements may damage the team's future, it's his/her call. Happens all the time at schools across the country. UT did not rescind her acceptance, but they did encourage her not to attend because of the hostility she would probably encounter.

Finally there are a whole bunch of people who wanted Banks kicked out of school because of something he said, while drinking. Seems you guys practice your own version of cancel culture.

Me personally, I didn't want Banks booted and was glad they took him back. I think we do more damage to kids who do something stupid by throwing them away or kicking them out than teaching them how they screwed up. That being said what they did to this girl for a single word she said at 15 years old is unforgivable and doesn't mesh with the mission of the university which is mainly to prepare people for adult life.

Do I hate the University? No but I do think it has lost it's way.

When did you receive such degrees? Mine is very recent. Education has changed. My brother is going to UTC right now, and some of the things his professors have said blow my mind. It is a giant liberal circle jerk. Also, this was a 15 year old child reciting a rap lyric in a private snapchat to a friend. Banks was a 20 year old, scholarship football player, spewing vile threats to police officers. Surely, with all those degrees you can understand the difference.

...Living vicariously through their daughters.

A lot of them do. Our daughter was almost kicked off a competition dance team because me and the wife were seen out drinking at a bar during one of their weekend competitions in Gatlinburg. Apparently drinking in public reflects badly on the dance team, we should have just gotten shithoused in our room like the other parents.

Nailed it, hog!

LULZ!!!! Yep, should've stayed in the room like the other parents. Reminds me of when I go back to LC and my parents looking around Calhoun's for people they go to church with when I order a drink.

You know how to keep your Baptist friend from drinking your beer while fishing?

Invite another Baptist.

Yeah, kinda funny there's only a three second clip there...

I don't give them a freakin' dime. I don't recognize much of anything about the place where I graduated, especially the football team. I give money to local charities, not to that place.

Yeah that place has become the enemy of America, (as with all universities). I deferred my tickets for the 2021 season and I'll not be renewing again.

Part of the problem is who is using the word. Why is it alright for blacks to use that word but not whites. I know blacks use also use the n word ending with a A, but it basically means the same. It’s just as racist as the original n word

Because of slavery. That's the excuse white libs make for any bad stuff that blacks do.

Thankfully we stayed away from gymnastics.

Those parents are the worst, fathers included in that as well.

I've had more than a few run ins with them over the years. Thankfully, we only have to deal with them once a year.

. So, your saying that it’s alright for blacks to call each other the n word because of slavery? What a load of 💩. How many blacks today have actually been slaves? That an excuse that racist blacks want to use to validate they’re use of the word.

Universities have changed radically over the past decade even. They now see their primary focus not as education but as transforming society by churning out as many copies of the virus know as woke social justice warriors as possible to eliminate perceived systemic racism and imagined oppression. If you have any doubts about our once beloved UT and it’s complicity in the farce, just Google “University of Tennessee office of diversity pronouns” and you will see exactly what I am talking about. And all the while they are providing an “education “ worth less and less, they annually increase tuition so that it costs more and more.
Regarding UT’s role in the Mimi Groves debacle, please do not attempt to defend the indefensible. The University of Tennessee displayed a disgusting degree of moral cowardice here. They threw a young woman under the bus just to protect themselves from criticism by the mob. Period. That is despicable behavior by an institution that claims to develop and shape young lives. Contact your state legislators and the Governor and express your disdain. UT should not be allowed to exercise this level of vindictiveness and get away with it.

Well dads do tend to get mad when creepy old guys do "security checks" in the dressing rooms. :)
