Miss St. Transfer OT Percy Lewis (Auburn)

Yes that kid should have said screw my baby being born in Texas, I want to go play in Tennessee.

People have to understand not every kid is winnable. Not every deal is winnable in business due to factors beyond the salesman’s control.
That’s completely understandable, just threw people for a loop that he would be visiting/expressing interest in programs outside of TX if that was the key factor. My guess is that he had real interest, but when he went home to TX and spoke with his family, they told him he needed to do what was right and stay close to home

That and showing real interest in one of the schools with a reputation for having one of the highest paying collectives helps you get as much money as possible from the school you always wanted to go to.

Sorry, but neither you nor I are in those meetings. We can differ on those opinions. But NIL gives the money people more power than ever. Its not a stretch to “assume” they want players in exchange for their contributions.
Uh huh.

Now that we've established that it's all assumption that has you in here all up in a panic, the question then arises:

Why are you so dead set on borrowing anxiety from a future you don't even know is real? And why are you in here blowing panic bubbles for the rest of us?

I mean, Swain I can understand. He makes his money by getting viewers and there's no better way than to create as negative a narrative as you can about a subject you know people care about. I mean in the very video you linked, Swain was nothing but self-refuting. He acted as though the sky was falling and he OL staff can't close, while simultaneously calling this year's OL class excellent (and then hand-waving that he didn't want to talk about this year's excellent OL class). He alluded to problems developing players, and then literally hand-waved our 1st round draft pick by saying he doesn't want to talk/hear about it.

So, he claimed they can't recruit by pointing out their recruiting success. He claimed they can't develop by pointing out their development success. If one can't see the agenda in that, then I'm not sure what help there is for them. Did you not see the agenda in that?

Now, what benefit do you get from ignoring all of that so you can assume the worst, panic, and then come here blowing panic bubbles for the rest of us? I'm legitimately asking because I'd really like to understand. Do you not have enough to worry about in life without borrowing all of that "not in the meetings, but it's not a stretch..." assumed anxiety?

ALTERNATE GUESS....

He danced with several other programs to leverage the biggest cash cow he could from his very targeted landing area. Our offer might have to top the other one by the cost of 5-10 round trip tickets back to Texas every year. Kind of hope he really wants to be close enough to his kid, if the reports are factual, to sway his decision. Some sense of responsibility is a good thing.

That was always my fear when the rumored Nico deal got published.

It’s a double edge sword. You get kids on campus that may have never considered UT so you get a shot but the other side is you get a lot of people using UT and wasting staffs time.

unfortunately a lot of fans don’t understand this and blame staff for every miss even if the kid would not even consider UT.

I mean take Darnell Wright for example. He was borderline busy territory before Elarbee got here. Then he turns him into a top 10 draft pick.
Darnell had nothing to do with his own success. I forgot Elarbee…. Lifted the weights, studied the film, practiced, and played the games for him….

Who said it had nothing to do with Darnell? As a coach Elarbee helped him develop and got the best out of him. Do you not understand how development and coaching work?

Exactly Darnell was dogwater before Huep arrived and miraculously turned into a 1st round pick in 2 seasons. Lol. But I guess coaching and development had nothing to do with that

Happens a lot but if you get them on campus I think you have a chance.

I mean lost in all the panic is our player average talent is up. We’re just tight on numbers bc of the scholarship restrictions. Literally a player or two can really change your overall rank quite a bit.

Not only do you get a chance when they come here. It also wastes other staffs time and draws more money out of them as well. Tennessee will outspend most programs but they also have a number they won’t go over for certain players.

So, what's the argument? That staffs play no role in OL development? That would discount the very discussion at hand--i.e comparing our staff's development to whether a (replacement) staff would develop better.

If staffs play no part, then we're no better off one way or another. If staffs do play a part, and some are saying our staff suffers in that, then pointing out their first round pick (especially with before/after performance points) seems pertinent.

He’s 6-8. That’s a Tackle.
That's possible, but not probable. There just aren't many examples of NFL guards that tall. Dan Skipper (6'10") is the only one taller than 6'7" currently, and he was a tackle his entire college career. Then there are only 2 that stand at 6'7". Would he even be willing to switch to guard?
Thank you. I made this argument earlier in the thread.

Just seems like a guy like this wouldn’t still be visiting if he knew the LT and RT starting spots were already taken. Marcus Mckethan and Andrus Peat are both 6’7, Mckethan is more Lewis’ size at 340~. Seems like he might be open to LG given the situation currently in Knoxville. At least Nico is 6’6 lol

Not necessarily. There aren't a lot of major programs that would let him walk into a starting spot. Ole Miss passed on him. The market may be educating him and he may realize he can get some good NIL money and have a chance to play.

I agree. Either we're building the great wall of China for the OL or we're trying to recruit portal backups. Seems like the former. Maybe a third option is he's a backup in case we miss on heard, which in the portal days seems like a real option considering how things are so fluid.

Full disclaimer, I've never played football competitively. But it seems like a 6'8ish" guard would be difficult to throw around, even for nico at 6'6". But maybe I'm wrong. Small QBs have seen a lot of success at the college level.

I gotta say you are the most confusing poster on here!

Lotta times you bring negativity and have black clouds looming and then you have a post like this, that makes total sense and I couldn’t agree with more!
