Mississippi State got hosed

I think they were out of jersey numbers and had to use two number fours. Seriously though, how big an advantage is it to have two players with the same jersey number?
If one of them gets ejected, it's a huge advantage. You can still play him and not get caught. That's the only advantage I know of.

I will say, FWIW, I learned something. I did not realize how that rule actually read. When I was playing football, nobody ever talked about exactly how dead it had to be.

132-107 in the past 20 years with 10 winning seasons without a 10 win season since 2007. Bowl record (none major bowls) 6-5 over that period. Your major power conference is embarrassed.
And yet still better than the Tiggers with more wins over quality opponents. Memphis hasn’t accomplished anything. Ever. In any sport

Just Watched the Replay. Watch the Ref not the players.
Threw two Markers down and signaled a clock stoppage.
Can't hear but when he signaled the clock stoppage probably blew the whistle.
Between this and the Penn State game SEC Refs not having a good day
I felt this last week against Pitt with the ACC Refs.

If he signaled anything he was wrong. The play isn't over until possession is taken. Never happened. At least according to Leach and the SEC.

In the replay he does not. The whistle is on his hand and after he signaled the clock stop he just put his arms down. Now another ref might have but that particular one didn't.

Not that I think it matters, when he signals clock stoppage that should end the play. He was clearly trying to stop the play and just stopped when he saw the guy running and froze.

The SEC quote someone posted had the verbiage about the ball coming to rest. It wasn't moving when the Memphis guy scooped it up. I watched the video, but didn't hear a whistle. Actually didn't hear anything. Beth Mowens triggers instant mute.

Usually refs will give it a couple of seconds before whistling that the ball has come to rest. That's why a team trying to drain the clock will not pick it up but will create a circle around it and wait til the ref's whistle. So I would argue that it wasn't yet at rest, but the back judge's signal should have negated the return. He ultimately made the wrong call.

Mississippi State never downed the ball.

The Pirate got outcoached.

Memphis would beat the Vols 3 touchdowns this year and for the past 10 years. It hurts but it's true.
The 2nd guy clearly “downed it”. Had his hand on the ball and made it come to a complete stop. The ref waved his hands and threw the bean bag to mark the spot. He obviously thought it was downed and marked it as such. Then he went full jellyfish and ignored his own call. The SEC released two statements yesterday about two blown calls in two separate games. They need to stop releasing statements and start fining or firing these pathetic excuses for referees. It’s like training a dog or raising a toddler; if there are no consequences the behavior will go unchanged. It’s beyond embarrassing at this point and is either gross incompetence or gross cheating.

That one is still living in your head?

Who was president then?...George Bush, no Bill Clinton! You still do the 'Macarena' too? Oh...you are probably still suffering over Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorcing. Gas was a dollar twenty and stamps were 32 cents. Nintendo releases Nintendo 64. The Dow hit 6,000.

And Memphis beat Peyton Manning and the Vols...on a bad call.

Oh well, back to my Seinfeld reruns.
Yeah that 26 and 1 record we have against Memphis is really killing me. And you have no clue if Memphis would have beaten UT lately or not. I saw Memphis teams all the way back to Lloyd Patterson and Keith Butler who were better than UT the year they played and Memphis CHOKED every time. It took 2 fluke plays (one illegal) in 96 just to get the one W. Spare me the discussion about the “best program in TN”. If they were the best program in TN, one would think the Little 12 might want them.

The MS State player put one hand on the ball and downed it. I’ve seen it done that way a million times. It was quick but it was done.

You ARE an SEC fanboy and it is a big deal to you, else you wouldn't bother to post and to find a picture of you standing in front of your high school band trophy case.

The SEC is the best football conference, thanks to Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Auburn. Tennessee is a hanger on.

Tennessee will not play Memphis. Why is that?
No we just like to correct you. By the way, UT is still top 10 in wins correct? I’d say that’s more than a hanger on. You do realize that history started before 2007 correct?

Doesn't matter. The rule simply says "comes to rest." A knee on the ground doesn't equal coming to rest if the player if the player simply touches the ball for an instant.

I think their dance team or cheer squad used to win some competitions back in the day. 😀
