Also, if Geno is the greatest basketball coach ever then why didn't he ever try his hand at the men's game? He is a man in his 60's who has accomplished it all and yet still just wants to coach girls.

Can't believe this post..... why can't someone choose what their vocation will be? Is UConn's coach less of a person because he chooses to coach "girls" as you say? Tyler Summitt was asked about his choice to coach WCBB vs the guys... and he said he prefers the women's game.... and would rather coach it..... is he a failure if he doesn't make the move to coach the guys? And in your opinion, at what age will Tyler be judged a failure if he does not make the move to prove himself in the men's game?

And "coach girls" certainly sounds like you are trying to denigrate the wonderful game of WCBB Hope that is not the case.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for taking a small part of a much larger post and in turn completely missing my point. Geno was not the first to dominate the women's game and he will not be the last. You have a small number of elite high school talent on an annual basis who expend all 4 years of their collegiate eligibility with only a select number of teams who have significant national television exposure to sell to those recruits. This allows for a stockpiling of talent.

My point: Geno is a great coach who is dominating a sport that is not that hard to dominate.

Nah. I bet disgruntled fanboys said the same thing about John Wooden all the time.

Dead wrong. Those 'disgruntled fan boys' were pointing to sugar daddy "Papa Sam" Gilbert's influence over what was going on at UCLA from 1965-1980 (when Gene Bartow put an end to it with a letter to David Berst) and finally got them placed on probation. Apples and oranges comparison.

This will be the last of this for me. It's been years now that Auriemma has had an open gym policy for anyone, coaches, players, whomever, who wants to watch what they do in practice where all of the good stuff happens. For years now. A few have shown up and their programs improved accordingly.

UConn doesn't get all of the best recruits despite the constant accusation. Do they get good ones? Yeah, they do just like everyone else does. The big, no, huge difference is their players get pushed harder to expand their game so their four years of university ball aren't just an extension of their high school glory years. It isn't magic and it damn sure isn't cheating and if creating the desire to excel, to make every play in the game the best it can be made is bad for the game then maybe our definition of, "game" or, "sport" needs work. Pissing and moaning about a group who has figured out how to light the fire and make it hotter is not only wasted energy but moving backwards. You hate UConn? Fine. Beat them. You have a buttload of all americans, lots of teams do. Do something with them besides buying them uniforms and a gym to play in.

You assumed I was pissing and moaning about my team not being that great ...

When in reality you didn't address a single thing that I stated in regard to the state of WOMENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL.

It's laughable of you to think that I invest a whole hell of a lot of effort and energy into a women's sport. The reality is this is the SEC, and down here we care about FOOTBALL first and foremost.

My comments are in no relation to my butt hurt about my own women's program, or your programs sucess. IDRC. I'm simply making observations about a sport in which ALREADY makes 0 money, and with the insane dominance of one single program, shoots itself in the foot in relation to viewership, attendance, etc.

No one watches...meaning less and less revenue. Take a look at the stands, no one shows up for these games. Everyone knows UCONN will win, so why bother AS A VIEWER.

A lot of people kissing up to Geno on here... The women's game is especially conducive to a dominant team. You have a very small pool of elite high school talent to draw players from and they all stay for 4 years. Additionally, only a small number of teams receive national television exposure to aid recruiting and everyone wants to play on television. (this is where ESPN came into play - UConn was getting just as much airtime as Tennessee from '96-'98). When it wasn't UConn running shop over the field it was Tennessee and when UConn's run is over - it will be someone else. That's just the nature of WCBB.

Also, if Geno is the greatest basketball coach ever then why didn't he ever try his hand at the men's game? He is a man in his 60's who has accomplished it all and yet still just wants to coach girls.

there starting lineup are three #1 recruits for their year plus the starting guard on the Canadian Olympic team. Yes they do get the best of the best an of course because the players want to learn from a great coach. The top of the mountain is several standard deviations above the plateau where teams 2-12 reside.

Actually, according to ESPN, they have 2 #1s, one of whom (Samuelson) is a freshman and the other (Stewart) a senior. I also believe that the Lady Vols have more McDonald's All-Americans than UCONN (7 to 6), or certainly a similar number, including at least one #1 recruit (Russell). UCONN has one #2 recruit (Jefferson), and the Lady Vols one #3 (DeShields). The Canadian (Nurse) was ranked 33rd. Nared was #6 and Middleton #28 in the same 2104 listings. The final UCONN starter (Tuck) was ranked slightly below Graves.

Other ratings would of course bring different numbers/rankings, but the disparity is not as dramatic as a lot of folks seem to assume. The same would be true, I think, if one looked at the Duke or Notre Dame recruits over the same period.

After Tyler wins 10 titles he should move up. :eek:lol: geno is comfortable as is his assistant. They are probably afraid of failing. Why ruin a good thing.

A thread title of, MISSISSIPPI STATE, turns into "I love Geno and UCONN" thread, on a Lady Vols message board. Pathetic.

You have a lot of UConn fans on here because they like browsing rival boards once in a while and not many other teams care enough about women's bball to even have an active forum discussing it. I doubt most Miss State sports fans are even aware there was a game today.

I think the larger part of this is what happens when you mistake your opinion for, "indisputable". It happens all the time. Having worked in a psych hospital for almost two decades if there's one thing I know better than to waste my time on is trying to reason with someone's indisputable opinion.

If that is your point then you have total agreement from me.... I will go a step further and say that the "top 25" rankings mean nothing... (i.e. "top wins" vs supposed highly competitive teams are not that at all).... and making it to the Final 4 comparatively not that difficult.... Look at Miss Muffet for example.... she is very good coach.... but no world beater.... in our game though.... she is a wizard..... I am surprised she lost yesterday and will miss her first FF in several years

Yeah, I'll cop to liking UConn and have been a fan for a long time. That doesn't mean I don't like Tennessee. I like the women's game and really like it when it's played the way basketball was meant to be played. Fluid motion, passing, good shooting, with more smiles on the court than scowls. I'd like to see a dozen, two dozen versions of UConn spread out across the country and wouldn't give a tinker's damn if we won or lost them all just so long as the games were well played. I haven't made the first negative comment about your young women and am pleasantly surprised at their late season heroics.

I didn't say that you were doing anything wrong. Fwiw, I really miss the games we played in the NCAA tournament from 1996-2004 (well, maybe not the 2000 final or 2002 semifinal very much). Those were intense and well played games that anyone who appreciates basketball should have enjoyed. It also seemed like women's basketball had more of the nation's attention back then. Whether it's Baylor, ND, Tenn or someone else, WCBB desperately needs an influx of drama and some competition for UConn. It's getting boring.

I went to the rosters, and counted 7 for us, 5 for UConn in McDonalds HS All Americans. Ohio State has 4

I think Coach Jumper may be counting two for UCONN (Edwards and Boykin) who transferred during the first semester of their freshman year.

I despise UCONN, but it is ridiculous how good that program is. They haven't lost a damn game in like 3 years.

Probably that, I just looked at a page or two... You know the ol saying "If its on the internet it has to be true"... Just got the wrong truth ;o)

Good catch. But then again, it really puts the importance of the MDAA in question if he's doing it with less of them...

I hate to say it, but IF IF Tn makes it to play U Conn, you know Geno will really want to put it to us!!! I hate to think how ugly that could be.

Regardless of how bad a beating it was, it would be good for the program to be back in the title game... and frankly, it would give the women's championship game a much needed story line. Someone has to be served as a sacrificial lamb. Tennessee would create more interest for that than Syracuse, Washington or (maybe?) Stanford would.
