This fan base will never admit, but Cuonzo was a good coach. As good as CRB? Nah. But a good coach nonetheless.

Sick of hearing how he was bad and how we will kick their #$%

Should be a good game, think we win but wouldn't be surprised if we lose for the reasons OP mentioned.

Hope CCM has a good career with Missouri, he deserves it.

As Eastwood said in Unforgiven “deserves got nothing to do with it”.

He was above mediocre. That's about it. He's a good defensive minded coach. Offensively, he is not good. He had three NBA draft picks/players on his final TN team and barely snuck into the tourney. Then tucked his tail and used company resources to get a new job.

They have the same roster as last year with a couple of add ons. I'm not sold on them being our toughest test outside of KU. I think they are a good team, but even their own reporters are saying that TN is the class of the SEC. We'll know for sure on Wednesday. Their football stadium is the quietest football stadium I've ever been to, can't imagine their basketball arena being any better.
Well, u would be wrong about the Tigers' basketball fans and arena, they can be extremely loud, probably not so much this year. But, Mizzou is a basketball school and has been for as long as I can remember, Norm Stewart and Derrick Chevious in the mid to late 80's to be exact, talking about how far back, I remember

Still, we win by 10+, imo

Not questioning your assessment of their bball history, but they absolutely had terrible fan support the last few years

As much as I like Cuonzo, his team's can be boring to watch, plus they have barely been a 500% team the last couple of years. I"m sure that has a lot to do with their fan support. But, they are winning and ranked in the top 15, in a normal season, this game would be sold out, imo. It's kinda like Field of Dreams, except if u win, they will come

I've spent a lot of time in Missouri over the years. I have lived in Tennessee my whole life, but also have land 70 miles east of Columbia. I can tell you that there is not much that goes on in that part of Missouri, but the natives love Mizzou basketball with a passion. They generally have been very disappointed in Cuonzo, and most that I know wanted him gone after last year. If they ever get good again, they're pretty rabid as you mentioned in another post.

He got super unlucky a couple years ago. He totally sold out to get Michael Porter, who proceeded to get injured.

Our bball team seemed to spike in cases with our football team, based on the cancellations. With that in mind, I wonder if this game will actually happen this week.

Assuming the football team really has current cases instead of making up something to avoid playing a bowl game because the team is terrible

The biggest reason Cuonzo is likely screwed in this one is that even if he gets the game to go his way, the Vols are better at playing ugly defensive games than Missouri.

Also, he is a good recruiter but not a good coach. He's done less with more than just about anyone in the SEC/Pac 12 during his stops in both places. There was an article right after his 1st year at Missouri that since he got to Tennessee he'd signed as many top ranked players as Roy Williams at NC. The results certainly haven't been there on the court.

We want know anything for sure after just one conference game. Missouri could easily beat us at home and still finish well behind us in the standings or vice versa. Happened a couple of years ago as a matter of fact.

It’s college basketball - we’re bound to lose some games and mizzu might be one of them. Have to look at the body of work over the entire season do determine the quality of any team. Regardless of this fact, I like our coaches, program, and players better than what I see at Mizzu and I’d suspect the odds makers will haveUT laying some points

It's because he is not a good coach. And he can't handle criticism. He's the Butch Jones of Basketball.
You just will never convince these Cuonzo worshipers that he has not been a good coach. They just simply can't look at the numbers and objectively say he is not good. Is he the worst coach ever? No, just below average to average at best. Why is a coach that didn't win at a high rate here and abandoned our program so worshipped by these people is the real question?

Some, like Pulaski, solely will go against the grain of the conversation for the heck of it. Just to troll. They know he was average, at best, but pride and the desire to argue trump their logical thinking ability.

Cuonzo Martin's success at UT was similar to Bruce Pearl's in some areas. Records wise, he never had a season worse than Pearl's last season. He also never had a season as good as Pearl. Cuonzo lacked respect from the fans and from the NCAA Committee. If his name had been Bruce Pearl, he would have never missed the NCAA Tournament.
People are fixated on the games that UT failed to score 40-50points. However we lost those games by single digits. You might not like or agree with his coaching style, but that's a sign of good coaching. Also, when he was hired he was an Assistant to Brad Stephens on a USA Basketball team roster. This shows he was thought highly of as a coach at the time.
While at Tennessee, Cuonzo was not a very good recruiter. He took a lot of reaches and gave me no faith to trust his evaluations. His best class that didn't make it to UT was filled with 3-star prospects. I don't believe any of them ever did anything where they ended up. When Cuonzo left UT, he changed his recruiting philosophy and started getting better players. He did get Jarnell Stokes and Robert Hubbs. Josh Richardson was a project player that blossomed at the end of his third year in the program under Martin. Other than that, there were a lot of reaches.
His personality, recruiting, and style of play gave fans nothing to get excited about and it ultimately did him in. By all accounts he was a good guy and unlike Pearl, had his player's respect.

These kids are used to riding around in packed SUVs for AAU games. Traveling with a top tier college team is a freaking luxury experience. Trams tend to be more routine when they travel.
This came to mind for me also. AAU schedules aren't a picnic.
