Missouri: Most important game for Tennessee per ESPN

If Tennessee fans are waiting around to the 11th game of the season for the big game, the season is going to really really suck. I pin hopes on an impressive game plan against Florida. If we can't learn from mistakes of last year by the middle of the season, then we may have bigger problems than anyone can see right now

The only thing Mizzu has going for them is continuity at the head coach position and a good qb. We have the better talent across the board, it just hasn't been refined through time and good coaching. The game is a toss up. I predict that this will be our South Carolina game for this season. We win by less than 3. Suddenly we are back on everyones radar and we go bowling.

Much easier game this time around. Not that I'm predicting a win. I agree tho. Also its embarrassing we were the 1st to lose to them and still haven't beat them. I almost want it more than Florida.

Kentucky lost to them like two to three weeks before we did in 2012.

The numbers said the same thing last year. What happened? Do you honestly think kentucky will ever win the east! Good grief....

Recruiting averages don't guarantee an outcome, but they give you a very good idea of relative talent levels. You said you didn't want to hear about our 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes due to attrition, which I thought was fair. I found another way to make the point using recruiting rankings, but you reject that as well. It seems to me that you want to somehow have a discussion about relative talent that doesn't involve recruiting, which I would argue is impossible.

Nobody handicaps games or discusses strengths and weaknesses based on recruiting ratings. Cam sutton is much better than what was projected. By all accounts, Mosley might be one of our top newcomers in spite of his low 2 star rating. The recruiting gurus pander to the big fan bases. Michigan,Texas,Tennessee will always recruit in the top 20 even though in reality, they haven't. I saw one site today that said Tennessee might have the worst team in the sec. It is what it is.....

Right now the way the schedule goes Utah State is the most important game. We could definitely lose that game they are a good team with a super Quarterback that we might not be able to stop. Every game is important for our team we need to figure out a way to win six games if we can't it will be another difficult wait til next year.

Ah, there it is. You don't trust the recruiting rankings. I was wondering why you were resisting so vehemently. The recruiting information services aren't right 100% of the time, it's true, but if Tennessee's classes are overrated, shouldn't Sutton and Mosley have been overrated instead of underrated? You seem to have hurt your own point with those two examples.

EDIT: I hate that you don't trust the recruiting rankings. In some cases, they explain what seemed to be an upset at the time, such as a Texas team that had been throttled by BYU and Ole Miss beating Oklahoma handily last season. In other cases, they explain seemingly miraculous turnarounds, such as Auburn, who only beat two teams who had recruited better than them: Georgia (deflected pass caught for the winning touchdown) and Alabama (the only missed field goal returned for a touchdown I've ever seen). In cases like Missouri, recruiting rankings show that they overachieved by a large amount. To me, this confirms what I saw on the field, that Missouri had a great senior class and was playing at a very high level as well as catching teams who had outrecruited them by the widest margin at the right time (with lots of significant injuries). It also explains why Conner Shaw was able to come in for one quarter and erase a 17 point deficit: South Carolina had a significant talent advantage. Discount these numbers if you like, but I think you're missing out on a wealth of knowledge that you can combine with other factors to judge what you should expect, and to explain seemingly strange outcomes.

Sutton and Mosley are better than their higher rated contemporaries.
