Missouri: Most important game for Tennessee per ESPN

I didn't even read this thread, I only read the first post. I can tell you we did not lose because of the lack of speed, they beat us because of depth. Last year mizzou was deep as F. Their roster went like...120 deep or some ****e. When you are that deep you have speed and talent automatically because no one on your team plays many minutes. The Ducks were the same way. No duck broke a sweat, even though they never drafted a top class...why? anybody? anybody? anybody? Bueller? ... because of depth. No one plays enough minutes to get tired. Oregon is not the team they used to be. They are not as good as they used to be. I don't see them doing that much this year. They aren't as deep. Mizzou is not as deep either.

We got bombed in Columbia last year, and they return Matty Mauck who proved to be a pretty good qb. Please don't give me dooley's signing classes of 2011 and 2012 as reasons why. Very few of those guys remain, let alone will contribute. It seems several people on this site and other vol sites are saying we are more talented. They had far more speed than we did last season. I'm not saying we won't win in Knoxville, but we will beat a more talented team if we do. One great class is not going to catch us up with the better teams.
We have more talent than 5 teams on our schedule, but we get Missouri and Florida at home at good times on our schedule. We aren't as talented but thankfully it's not just about talent. Florida on the other hand could be dead in the water by the time they roll into ktown. 7 wins would be great.....

You typically can't use the previous year as an example when talking about which of two teams is more talent, and right now this applies to no one more than it applies to Mizzou. Their D-line made us look like an FCS team last year, that D-line is gone. DGB ate our secondary alive last year, DGB is gone. That's just 2 examples of the massive talent drop-off from last year to this year. They are going to struggle.

It's ok if you want to say they are more talented than us (which I disagree with) but using last year as an example is completely invalid.

This right here is the problem with BeattieFeathers whole argument. Add in the fact that most of their receivers graduated or are no longer on the team, their RB is gone as well. Maybe they have more experience than us. but the game is later in the year and our more talented Freshman are going to be getting a lot of experience throughout the year. By the time this game rolls around, they (our freshman) will be playing like sophomores as those EE players S&C kicks in. My guess would be that we would have a little more depth than them also. I'd like to also add that last years Missouri game was Dobbs first start so it would be an outliner on how the team will fair this year.

Were not playing last year's Mizzou team!

We are playing a Mizzou team without their starting QB (Mauk is good though), top RB, all three starting WRs, three Oline starters, three Dline starters (they still have some talent on dline though), and other losses on defense. This years game will be at Neyland and we won't have a QB in their first start of the season (unless he is a walkon). We will field a much faster team on both sides of the ball, especially defense. Our return teams will be better and our kick coverage will be better. Kickers will be an unknown though.

We gonna whip dey azz!!!

After reading all the posts in this thread, I give us a 50/50 chance of beating Mizzou. That's assuming at least 50% of the statistics stated are correct. Which, we know are usually only about 30% accurate.

The Missouri game coming late in the season is one we must win. If were getting better beating them at home is a must game.

50 percent of the time, we'll win......30 percent of the time.

nobody lost more linemen than us. Jeez, you guys want yo point out their losses like they have nobody to replace them? But we will?

I love his enthusiasm though. My favorite poster!:lolabove:

Can you all just get a room?

JK....seriously......Missouri will still be a well coached team with an adequate qb. play makers will emerge as they normally do when the juniors or seniors leave.

There are a lot of good posts/points here about talent, etc....but I think we get the job done at home. But as stated before, we CANNOT look like some fcs school on offense.

Much easier game this time around. Not that I'm predicting a win. I agree tho. Also its embarrassing we were the 1st to lose to them and still haven't beat them. I almost want it more than Florida.

Damn, for once I have to agree with you. The OP cites Mauk but negates the fact that MO has lost a ton of production - and replaced it with what?

I think we win also, but mauk outrun campus police on a scooter, while carrying two women and beer. Dude got mad skills!

By the end of the season we should be improving. Hopefully we are moving in the right direction and Missouri is moving the wrong one. I believe we can win especially since we are at Neyland

I did have this game as a toss-up, but after a closer look, this is a win. Missouri hasn't recruited at an SEC level. According to 247 recruiting class rankings for the last four years, Kentucky currently has more talent than Missouri if that helps drive the point home (Kentucky's four year average rank is 35.75 versus 42.5 for Missouri). Missouri had a fluke season last season, but they will have seasons like their first in the SEC more often than not if their recruiting doesn't pick up fast.

If you think kentucky has more talent than Missouri, god help you.

Missouri will need to show me the state of their program before I make a prediction.
