Missouri next Saturday

Missouri is a good defensive team. You know they’ll look at what Georgia did and try to mimic it. That’s good because we need practice trying to fix what we did wrong against it.
Mizzou’s problem is they likely can’t score 14 points even if they could replicate what GA did on D. I suspect they also don’t have the talent on D that would allow them to mimic the GA game plan. Not sure how many points we will score next Saturday, but I sure don’t see Mizzou scoring many. But, that’s why they play the games so we shall see - Go VOLS!

Mizzou has a defense. They ain't UGA, but after yesterday, I fully expect them to play man on us and bring the house at Hooker. I think this will be a good chance to see whether yesterday's result was due more to lack of adjustment and and execution or talent gap.

They can try. But they have a bunch of 3 stars. They will get toasted.

I believe many Vols fans underestimate Missouri. They simply aren't the same team we stomped last season. They did better against Georgia than we did. They did a more thorough job against Florida than we did. Any team that takes them for granted or lightly, does so at their own risk. These tigers have claws, and bared fangs. The Vols better bring a Lahu tribal mentally along for this game.

Agree. My post was meant as a positive thing. Tennessee should win easily while getting some valuable reps against a decent defense to try and fix what went wrong against Georgia.

I mentioned this in another thread. There is no offensive scheme that will ever work when the o line can’t block or protect the QB.
Amen. Their corners covered in man coverage, their DL got to us in four man rush, and the blitz got Hooker in two seconds. Coach your way out of that… When the Safety blitz, our slot broke off into a slant for big gains. They quit the safety blitz. People who think we can play call against that don’t understand football.

Almost hope they do. I just hope we do fix it.. Their line won't get the jump UGA's line was getting.. That crowd helped them teeoff..

I'm just thinking a shuffle pass (which has had success) or draw from time to time might have been a refreshing change to HH getting sacked.
That would’ve worked about as well as throwing confetti. They bull rushed our guards, and the LBs played zone. You can scheme you’re way out of getting tossed around like toys.

O line and the backs are going to have to learn from yesterday and do a much better job in protection.

Hooker needs to be a little more decisive in taking off and running when he does feel pressure.

Think the coaches could incorporate some more crossing and slant routes along with more rub routes if teams are going to go man to man on Tillman and Hyatt.

I doubt Missouri is able to get 20 pressures on the QB like GA did yesterday either.

It illustrates how far the remission of my BVS has progressed that I look at this Mizzou game and think, “Aw man, poor Mizzou…” kind of how we used to think about teams Bama played after a loss.

So help me understand what it means "... and the LBs played zone."

I just watched the game highlights. What I saw on a lot of the blitz plays was a single MLB staying home (in which case a draw or inside shuttle pass creates a 1x1), the ODBs dropping back in coverage with WR, or the entire GA defense on top of HH.

I never played or coached. Just a fan. It just seems to me there was missed opportunity.

VOLS did not exploit the GA pass rush. They should have been better prepared.
We kept the RB in pass protection consistently.
Did we keep the TE in protection during the entire 2nd half? The TEs should have been utilized more in pass protection. It might have made a difference, not a solution, but some help.

Here we go boys, time to pad the resume and play the playoff poll political game.

Interstate speed limit scores from here on out.

Let’s get those dudes at a neutral site for the big one! Great day to be a vol.
If the stars line up we will have the chance to play them again. Not seeing we will win, but it will definitely play out differently. To make things clear, I am as happy as happy can be with the way this year is playing out. Maybe we have finally found our way out of the wilderness of bad coaching hires, bad AD decisions and booster melding.

Your thoughts on a quick inside shuffle pass or draw to keep the LBs honest?

You’re right. The MLB stayed home in gap assignment. They only rushed him on run assignment. Typically a shuttle pass works on over pursuit in the middle.

The only worry about Missouri is they actually have a solid defense, and our offense wasn't in rhythm at all. There not on the same plane as Georgia though, probably about as good as Kentucky's at best, who we hung 44 on. I don't believe Missouri will be able to score on us, they're only averaging 18 ppg in SEC games. Don't see that changing much unless it is a blowout.
