i wonder if they can still get out of it... i bet they could.. might have to go through the legal system though

If there's a way I would try to if I were them. Makes tons more since for them and creates a natural rivalry with a&m

Hope and pray we don't lose Bama for this bs. Make 2 protected rivalry games if Auburn moves. Or just move Mizzou to the East, even if it doesn't make geographical sense.

Fan base isn't huge but I feel would grow. That's a good thing they got going down there. Would be silly for slive not to be...

Maybe I am missing something but if the west gets a&m and mizzou wouldnt 2 teams have to move to the east to keep it fair?

The problem would be for Bama ... How to keep Auburn in the Three Teeth Bowl and TN in the TSO game.

TN and GA will have to pickup Tex A&M & Mizzo as their West every year team.

And why would they "have to", out of curiosity?

should have grabbed kansas instead.. IMO

please explain....

is it their football tradition?
is it their massive yearly basketball revenue?
is it their clean track record as an athletic program?
is it their unparalleled academics?
is it their populated state with television markets?
is it their destination college town that is lawrence, ks?

I don't disagree, but Tennessee-Alabama has been the biggest day on the sports calendar in my family for probably 70-75 years. This is a game I've watched with my great-grandfather, my grandfather, my father, and now my son. It makes me sick to think that game might vanish because Mike Slive is so desperate to add TV sets in Houston and St. Louis.

Spot on. I'd be curious to know the exact dollar amount all this expansion is going to bring in for UT just so we could know what the AD's pricetag for selling its soul was. Another thing that's so frustrating about this is how quickly its all happening. 6 months ago, the 3rd Saturday in October would have seemed untouchable, but sure enough, the writing is all but on the wall for the series now. Whatever. I guess this just adds a little more incentive for me to get down to Tuscaloosa for this years game because there's a real chance it'll be the last 3SIO we get to enjoy for several years. Unreal.

I've heard this same rumor..If true Tennessee/Alabama won't happen every year becuase i'm sure Auburn/Alabama would not go away.

Noone knows how the realignment would happen yet....but it's also quite likely they do what they did when arky and USCe joined: two cross division rivals

Well what I meant was, well for example,
from 1992 until around 2002, each year two of tennessee's three cross divisional matchups were always Alabama and arkansas....it was a system created by the commish and league (& deemed as an idea towards how to better establish the new teams with previous conference members as well as possibly create some new rivalries amongst them and said already members, as well as create and/or further some just amongst the previous members).

There's been alot of talk about them using that system again since they'd be (once again) introducing 2 new team's into an already established league

Couldn't they make all the sec teams drop one of their OCG and keep things as they are

We also used to play auburn every year

And the likely setup is back to 2 constant cross division rivals

^^This says it all and I am with you brother...UT/Bama is THE rivalry in the SEC in my eyes and I hate the thought of not seeing it every year because of realignment....It's a game I look forward to more than any other.:cray:

Bring Bama and Auburn to the East and shoot Vandy to the West.

I think either move vandy west and miss and miss St east

Or let ole miss (or miss St) come east

(and before someone says it, it doesn't HAVE to be geographic like the name)

That would still just be a temporary fix. Most people seem to think that 16 teams is the endgame, and with 8 team divisions, 2 yearly cross-divisional rivals becomes a mathematical impossibility, even with the 9 game conference schedule. They're not just going to pick 2 teams you play every year, and then NEVER play the other 5 teams in the west. I know people can't seem to come to grips with this, but it looks more and more like the UT/Bama rivalry just won't have a place in a 14 or 16 team SEC. All Slive and the university presidents care about is lining their pockets with a little extra cash, tradition be damned.

Oklahoma and Nebraska fans said the same thing when they put the Big 12 together. It didn't work out that way. Realignment and scheduling is going to be a mess; not everybody's going to get what they want.

It's kind of an ominous sign that the Birmingham news article on al.com that supposedly broke this story talks about Auburn moving east and playing Alabama every year, but doesn't mention that
Alabama would then lose the UT game. Makes you wonder whether the Third Saturday is a big enough deal in Alabama anymore for them to push hard for it.

Or noone knows what's actually going to happen with realignment....they're just reporting the first thing

I think everyone can agree that the Iron Bowl has a 0% chance of losing it's yearly status. People can pretty well connect the dots from there on out as far as what happens with the UT/Bama rivalry.

Move Tennessee to the west. Move Auburn and some other team (Ole Miss?) to the east. Make Auburn and Alabama permanent opponents. Auburn and Georgia still play every year, since they're in the same division. Same with Tennessee and Alabama.

Florida would have to pick LSU or Tennessee as their permanent opponent. If they went LSU, Tennessee would probably get stuck with Kentucky. Would rather have Georgia.

If you moved Ole Miss, obviously the Egg Bowl would be the permanent opponent.

Does not change the competitive balance of the conference much.

Lose the "east" and "west" monikers if it bothers people.
