Missouri to sec west

Well I dont really know how to gauge the strenght of ties to Maryland's football market but they do have 10 players from Marylnad on their current roster. I am sure that the proximity alone would give Tennessee a better chance at landing some of the talent from Maryland. If nothing more than the actual distance from Marylnad powerhouse programs to Morgantown. I dont know I just think it would be a good addition...and WVU is still below the Mason-Dixon line. I just dont really think that Mizzou's addition would be that advantageous for the Vols or the SEC for that matter.

We get better and we can recruit it anyways. We had Tahj Boyd commited under Fulmer and Boyd is from that area but Kiffin told him to go elsewhere. We can get in that area with success.

They can still guarantee both games are played ever year. Right now, we rotate two teams out of the West on two year intervals with one every year(Bama). We can still drop one west opponent and pick up the extra east. If we want to keep the three west games, all the teams can drop one OOC game a year.

I like it because the Auburn rivalry will heat up again

Will go to 9 conference games for a fact,no speculation on it..Tennessee Alabama is safe

If the TSiO is that important, just add Bama to the east, leave Auburn in the West. Bama can have Auburn as their every year cross division team.

Looks like expansion is over for the time being.

Possibly, but the SEC is still stuck with this pesky problem of aTm. We can't just have a 13 team conference, so I imagine the we'll have to pick up another school in the near future.

Theyve said they'd be fine scheduling for a 13 team conference for a year or two

The conference will wait until it finds someone it feels is worth it rather than just add a body

only if teams can have two games that don't rotate...

the sec currently operates with one non-rotating interdivisional game

if auburn goes to the east you know the iron bowl will be both bama and auburn's non-rotating interdivisional game

if auburn moves to the east, then the only way the third saturday in october stays alive is if the sec adds another non-rotating game after all this realignment is over

the conference did that last time when Arky and USCe joined (between 1992 and around 2002, 2 of the vols 3 out of conference opponents were always Alabama and arkansas....it was deemed a good system to introduce the new teams to established members as well as create new rivalries, both with the new teams as well as the established members)

I could see them going back to it again when introducing another 2 new teams

(also, cool. a browns fan :) )

gotcha, i was 1 at the time so i didn't even know about that til now...hopefully slime will reinstall this system after realignment is all said and done

and it's not so cool to be a browns fan...believe me :p

still, you don't see many around here (I was going to ask if you were an old-school-browns fan, but judging by the age, doesn't look like you were old enough to remember pre-move)

but it's been felt/written a bit during this process of it being a pretty decent (can't say likely) possibility of how everything will be handled

i'd like to think i know more than most vol fans my age, but it looks like i need to read up on my sec history a bit more if i missed something like that

my uncle is from the cleveland area. before the move, when i was little, i would go to rookies for the browns backers club and watch each game...once i was old enough to understand what the browns' fanbase has gone through i thought they could always use someone else to mourn with.

so when the browns returned to breaking hearts in cleveland i hopped on the wagon

MIZZOU has no chance to compete. These Midwest teams are gonna find out the culture real fast. And when recruits choose to go to the southern teams they will feel it was a huge mistake.

The bodies that will be available in a year or two are the same ones that are available now. Waiting isn't really going to change anything.

except they might be more willing to actually leave with a bit more time

Mizzou's not going to be the ones to leave like this when the big 12 was "just saved", but that doesn't mean in a season texas won't almost kill the conference again

The ACC's moves, unity, higher buyout likely makes this a poor time to make this move

West Virginia's not coming, period. The conference already turned them down without even having to take a vote.

The SEC isn't in a position where they can just rip someone away from another conference at the current moment, and they won't just add a Louisville as "ok now we're at 14!!!:pilot:)

The ACC's exit fees are a pittance to what a team will earn as a member of the SEC over a short period of time and even more i=over the long haul. You can bank on the ACC losing a team or two to the SEC.

probably, but i doubt now is when you're going to see that

unless texas bolts, this is likely it on the expansion news (other than: welcome aTm to the SEC!) until next summer

Ok not to nit pick but Tahj Boyd is a Sophomore from the class of 2009 wouldnt that have been a little late for Fulmer to have really pursued him? And also Hampton, VA is well south of the area I was talking about. I really want to get into Maryland powerhouses like Dematha

Boyd was committed to TN when Fulmer was fired. Kiffin evaluated the commits when he came aboard and told Boyd he didn't see Boyd having a role in his new offense. Kiffin told Boyd he would honor the committment but also basically told him he was wasting his time remaing committed.

Class of 2009 means the player finished high school in Spring 2009. His senior football season was Fall 2008.

Several articles have been posted online that detail the difficulties in scheduling a 13 team conference. It's basically impossible without having some teams forced to play more conference games than others. Is this extra TV money worth destroying the comptitive integrity of the league? How could you justify allowing some teams to play one less conference game and still be eligible for the conference championship?

They've said they're fine doing it and would figure out a way if they needed to. They've said it 4 or 5 times.
