Mitch Mustain...

I would take anything Mustain or any other USC player says publicly with a grain of salt. The only thing they will say is "I am staying" until they know for 100% fact they are approved at another school and papers are filed. They do not want to risk something falling through the admin side and then going back to a team that feels that person tried to abandon them. I highly doubt Mustain stays at USC. He has too many options at places to challenge for a starter position. In a perfect world for him, he would go to Auburn with Malzhan but they got Cam Newton which leaves TN as the front runner IF he wins the appeal. If not I could see him in the ACC at somewhere like Duke with Cutcliffe( Cutcliffe almost had him to TN out of high school)

Can they really appeal. Clay Travis was pretty adamant today on the radio that he couldn't play in the SEC.

there is not an appeal process on the books for the rule but certainly someone could submit an appeal for something that is on books. SEC could choose to look at or just dismiss the appeal.

Not sure why some assume Slive would review if someone appealed. Slive may not even get involved in the process. Could get stopped below him somewhere or approved below him..

the concern with Mustain is does he have the desire or will to play? He has basically sat for 3 years. How much does he care about football? Enough to move? Enough to move and even try or will he expect things to be given to him?

Lot of questions around this guy, IMO.

Correct. It would not be more impressive than winning the ACC in football as Duke's head coach. To me, that was more impressive than what Spurrier did during his time at UF.

The ACC was pretty weak in 1989. Florida State wasn't in the conference yet, and UNC was 1-10 that season, playing a bunch of freshmen. Except for Clemson (who Duke upset) and Virginia (which killed Duke), there wasn't anything to offer.

There was a window of opportunity for a senior-laden, well-coached team, and Duke jumped through it. Those circumstances don't happen often. By the same time a year later, Georgia Tech jumped from mediocrity to 11-0-1, Virginia was No. 1 for a month, Clemson went 10-2 and UNC won six games. If Duke had fielded their 1989 team in 1990, they would have been lucky to make a bowl.

What Spurrier did in 1990, when he took over a 6-6 team on probation, lost his best player (Emmitt Smith), and had the best record in the SEC, was more impressive than his 1989 performance at Duke.

Some posters are claiming source not credible, but they are USC posters. So really don't know how to take it, probably with a grain of salt.

wesrucker: See ... move along, folks. Nothing to see here. RT @BryanDFischer: Mitch Mustain said (again) that he's staying at USC.

Fight On, Mitch! How would you say your teammates are responding to the NCAA's ruling?

Mitch Mustain:
They're responding pretty well. There's nothing we can do about it, and it really hasn't bothered us. For the most part we've held together and kept working. We know what it takes, and we know a bowl game is a small part of what we're doing. We're just continuing to work and we've had a great summer.

what?

I hope we can move on now. I don't see how he could be that effective coming here with just a few weeks before training camp and learn a whole new playbook. He would be so limited, even more so than Simms or Bray. At least they have gone through spring football and now several months of looking at the playbook. JMO
