It happens when you're being selective. There's a very real chance we fail to address all of our areas of concern, BUT, it's not from lack of trying, and it's better to only target players we think can make a difference rather than taking a flyer and wasting a scholarship. I still think we were hurt by not being able to participate in the transfer market as much before this semester, but if it gets possible sanctions out of the way, it was worth it. Just sucks we couldn't chase after more players. All that said, I trust the coaches. We may just have to patchwork some spots with guys already on the roster and hope for the best. Going forward, we hopefully won't be handicapped by the same sanction limitations.I DEFINITELY don't think we are failing at everything, but it takes a special brand of orange kool aid to think we've done well in the portal so far this cycle and haven't specifically whiffed on the DL. Doesn't mean we can't fix it, but objectively we've got a very low batting average so far.
I am just looking at all of this as a fan who knows far less than the coaches. I am talking about me and not anyone else. We have already witnessed what money can do. If they want someone they will go hard after them and that batting average will rise. I know we haven’t plucked the portal to the bone but I think we will get the best that the coaches can get and I will be ok with it.I DEFINITELY don't think we are failing at everything, but it takes a special brand of orange kool aid to think we've done well in the portal so far this cycle and haven't specifically whiffed on the DL. The sad part of most the dudes they are saying Tennessee “failed” on or “whiffed” on didn’t even really give Tennessee a chance. Can’t be mad at the staff when a dude wouldn’t even give them an opportunity and come visit campus. Doesn’t mean that they haven’t missed but it’s not as bad as some make it.I DEFINITELY don't think we are failing at everything, but it takes a special brand of orange kool aid to think we've done well in the portal so far this cycle and haven't specifically whiffed on the DL. I see both sides of the argument. It's frustrating when it seems we were eliminated before the process even began, but at the same time, it's up to the coaches to reach out and sell the program. In this case, it's baffling that someone like Agude wouldn't hear RG out. But whatever. No staff gets everyone they want, not even Saban. You do your best to fill the roster spots with difference makers, then make do with what you have. We're still in a building process. The sad part of most the dudes they are saying Tennessee “failed” on or “whiffed” on didn’t even really give Tennessee a chance. There are still deadlines that mark eligibility as to whether or not someone can play next year. I'm guessing there's still a waiver process, but I'm also guessing that waivers may be harder to obtain since clear deadlines have been established. You do realize the portal goes on during the summer right?
His profile said he was class of 2020. He should have more than one year of eligibility. He only has 1 year of eligibility, he can only be a 1 and done
It would’ve helped if I stated I was speaking on the portal as a whole rather than just the DL. I’ve just seen too many people pointing fingers at the staff on some guys who never seem to as interested in Tennessee as the staff was them. I do agree that Tennessee has had their fair share of misses and I stated that in the previous post. I could be wrong but I can’t help but think that the amount of time the defense was on the field last season is playing a roll into this with several other factors.Sorry, but that's not an accurate description of how this has gone.
Verse came to campus. Robinson came to campus. And Agude was planning on coming to campus but shut it down after completing 3 of his previously scheduled visits. And that's just the DL. We also obviously had Neyor on campus too.
It's also not a case of us being selective but batting a high average. We've tried with a handful of others (the WF RB who went to the Cocks, the NW Safety who went to ND come to mind right off the bat).
It is what it is. I love the addition of Walker in the secondary. And I'm incredibly pumped about the very likely addition of McCoy at WR - he's arguably a better talent than Neyor. And further, I really like the 2022 class and was already super bullish about the 2023 class even before we landed Nico. But so far, in the 2022 portal cycle, specifically at DL/Edge, we've whiffed so far. Hopefully we can find another option soon.
Pretty sure he said where every goes he's one and doneHis profile said he was class of 2020. He should have more than one year of eligibility.

Click on “Santiago H.S.”. He was from the class of 2017. The class of 2020 pertains to him being a juco player. His profile said he was class of 2020. He should have more than one year of eligibility.

I think about: on the surface, absolutely, it looks like we are getting it handed to us at the portal...4 to 6 misses, and that might very well be so, strange and unlikely as I find it; but, as I've said, the guys we have "missed" on, Evans, Verse, this dude...what if we just didn't feel like, in the end, none were/are worth what they may have asked? De1 said the offer to Evans was laughable; I believe him, whenever I factor in what Evans probably believes he's worth and got...Heupel and co just didn't think so. Move on, both sides.Sorry, but that's not an accurate description of how this has gone.
