Mizzou

This still seems hyperbolic. He “can’t” lose to Missouri? That’s a tougher game than the Florida game so trying to imply this would be a bad loss is just incorrect.

We all want to go 10-2, but 9-3 would still be a successful season so whether it’s UGA or Mizzou as long as we win 1 of them we’re fine.
My thought process is the only games that matter are the big 3, which mizzou is obviously not part of. I had us going 10-2 with losses to Missouri and Alabama at the beginning of the beginning of the year. Losing to UF was a big setback in multiple ways. Should have had a 5-6 game win streak started against them. Because if that loss, we must beat mizzou now. We beat 2 out of the big 3 and drop a game to a meaningless program like Mizzou, no big deal. Sure it’s disappointing but I’m pretty sure we can’t win it all this year. Will need a little help.

The process is flawed. Tell me in what reasonable way you thought this team was expected to be 10-2 ? Did depth and injuries come into play ? What about the WR and TE positions? Defensive secondary ? Sure the WR room is starting to make plays, the secondary looked better before Hadden injury. 8-4 to 9-3 was a realistic view. I am just curious to your process

It’s weird to me why so many people on this board are unwilling to just admit that Missouri might actually be good. They gave Georgia a hell of a game yesterday. Too much overconfidence on this board and people have been saying Mizzou is “fool’s gold” for weeks but it’s never materialized.

That game is going to be brutal. We’re not a good road team and Mizzou is going to abuse our secondary. As long as we hold them to 3 instead of 7, we can win. But this is going to be a really tough game and losing to Mizzou isn’t “inexcusable” this year like some in this thread have alluded, too. They’re a Top 15 team….
The question is how healthy Cook and Burden are next week?

Why is everyone so very high on them? They’ve overachieved for sure but they’ve played a lot of close games and seem to give up a decent amount of points except to USCjr. They played UGA tough last year and we drummed the hell out of them, if Milton continues to play like he has lately I don’t see why we can’t do to them what we did last year.

I haven’t watched any of their games so I’m just going on history and their record.
Will have to outscore them. Our pass defense will be challenged. Expect a close match similar to Ky. Vols win and hopefully knock off Ga thre following week.

Missouri gave my dawgs all we wanted. Played very solid on the interior of both lines. Well coached. Cook, Burden, and some RBs all impressive. CBs aren’t great but still SEC quality. Played unafraid. OL not elite. Found some things that worked and stuck with them.

Schrader is a load, Cook is very athletic (almost a poor man’s Jayden Daniels, similar dimensions even), and their d-line is stout. It will be a tough game if they get up for it. If they are still deflated from yesterday’s loss to UGA, we may blow them out again.

Mizzou defense is pretty good, but we are going to spread them out like yoga instructor porn star and pound the .... rock repeatedly!

On defense, we need to bracket Luther Burden and terrorize QB Cook.

Hopefully their OL gets called for an occasional holding penalty to keep them somewhat honest. That might be a big ask with the treatment we have received from the refs this year.

This game worries me. On the road against a team that is pretty stout against the run with the exception of the LSU game. The game will be decided by how “on” Milton is IMO
I am much more worried about our secondary. This game as is with almost every game is won in the trenches. If our DL can return to early season form, then we should win. However our pass rush has been missing as of late. And if we can’t get pressure, Cook can light us up.

Losing to Mizzou is a bad look. Josh can’t afford it after losing to UF. He could have survived the loss if he had beaten UF.

Yep, you’re right. CJH most certainly will not survive and will be fired if he loses to Mizzou.

Moron….

If we beat Mizzou on the road, it will be our most quality win of the season. They are not who they were last year. If our D-line isn’t close to perfect, they will gash our secondary. I hope we win, but I can’t bet on it.

I think people are just being rational when evaluating them.. look at their schedule and who they've beat, they played Georgia close last year too. I think it'll be a closer game than the last 2 years but yes, we should expect to win on Saturday.

I’m glad the staff won’t be overlooking MO like so many fans are. MO could beat TN even if the game were in Knoxville. On the road at night will be an extreme challenge. Their offense is a really bad matchup for the Vols defense. The pressure will be on the Vols offense to score TDs often.

I just get the feeling that Heupel’s coaching style is a bad matchup for Drinkwitz much like Stoops at KY. We have scored over 60 two years in a row against Missouri . I don’t believe we reach that total this season but I do feel confident our offense will have success. Obviously, the worry is with our secondary and pass coverage. I still like Heupel in a shootout if the game is high scoring and it probably will be.

Jesus some of you have no clue. Best QB ? They beat a couple of nobodies. Dude isn't gonna fair any better than KY's dude and it wont be enough.
You mean the KY QB who shredded our secondary and threw for 375 yards? We only sacked him once and the MZ OB is a better runner, not to mention having a better team aroind him. There's a real possibility that we go on the road and get beat by multiple scores. Gonna have to either win TOvrs or slow down and run it to control TOP.

Pretty clear the refs won't call holding so we can't play straight up. Banks will have to come out of his shell and dial up some blitzes...and be creative doing it.

Banks admitted in his post game comments after KY that he schemed and sold out to stop the KY RB who had been the main focus of their offense coming into that game and took his chances with the KY QB. He made the Vol secondary pay for that but we pulled it out anyway so the strategy worked. Agree with some others on here that we will not play that scheme against Mzou. Look for the going back to the blitzes and pressure D.
