What is an elite recruiter? Martinez is primary for Jordan Matthews, Gibson, Conyer. Secondary for Sly Smith.

Also primary for Kaleb Beasley.

I'll give you that..but that's one year..in this class he's #36 in Nation, in 2022 he was #252..when he was here in 2013-2016 he was in 2014 #110, 2015 #479 and 2016 #142..when he was at UCF he was 5th on the staff and in the 400"s. I'm not sure this class is so much him but he will get credit as the primary. But if you can't develop the players it doesn't matter where you rank. I won't call him an elite recruiter when he's finished top 100 once since 2014.

So you won’t give him credit for “this class” but do give him credit/blame for every other class he’s been involved with recruiting?

There was absolutely nothing that would give us a good class in ‘22.

Just like our overall recruiting for every position group, I’d expect the level of player he lands moving forward to be even better.

Go ask Alontae Taylor what he thinks about WM. Go ask the Saints what they think of the readiness of Alontae Taylor when he got there. Ask them what they think of the evaluation and coaching acumen of WM. You won't hear anything but glowing praise for a veteran coach who knows his craft as well as anyone. Is he the best DB coach of all time? Nope, but his guys perform and they are solid at almost every aspect of playing their position. We can get better but the DB's are doing what they are being asked to do right now. IMO, we'll see that group dramatically improve over the next 2 classes. Competition makes for big improvement. We are sitting at 28th in the country for ppg given up at 21 and change. 19 and change for the last 3. We are scoring over 47. That and W's are all the stats I care about.

You don't get it. There are several on here that know more than WM.

So he did a good job or bad job…. I’m confused
I would say he did an average job. If you really want to see just how poorly coaches our DBs were go back and watch the ending of the 2015 Florida and 2016 Georgia game. Our pass defense was solid, but it was more because of the talent we had at corner and pass rushers we had and not necessarily because our secondary as a whole was well developed and coached

Killing it for saints
That’s more the talent if AT than the coaching of WM. All the CWM fan boys confuse me. He’s an average coach at best. I know y’all watch the games. No development at all this year.

Back to Love, did he make it in this weekend and if not is he expected to try to get on campus before early signing day. I feel like we’re missing a back like him more than a powerback. He has great speed and footwork/lateral quickness and looks to have the frame to eventually bulk up to 210-215ish. We don’t really have an APB on this team and that would make our offense even better

Fan boys lol….. we are having to use safeties and walk ons at cornerback….. I think he has done an above average job based on the current talent level in the secondary at UT….. I also think our secondary players have done an amazing job stepping up when called upon.

Guess the 25 or so defensive backs coached by Willie Martinez to get drafted into the NFL were all just super talented, never coached up or developed. Good grief.

We’re about to go 11-1 and are in the playoff convo and some posters are talking about coaching staff changes.

Why do you hate happiness so much?

So just to be clear, to be extremely happy with this season, we have to love every position coaches performance? Can’t have any negative thoughts or opinions about them? Makes total sense.

So because I think Martinez sucks, that means I am not extremely happy with what this team has accomplished???

WM started coaching DBs in 1992. So 25 guys drafted in 30 years of coaching. Good grief indeed.
So you're holding it against him that he wasn't putting players in the NFL while he was working his way up coaching at Bethune Cookman, Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, etc? Gotcha
