'24 MO WR Ryan Wingo (Texas commit)

Sheesh. Getting NIL 4 months early for him is really that big of a deal? He’s an EE. That’s so dumb. No way he amounts to anything with that putrid offense they run there.
More money, and money earlier. If the rumors are true with Nwaneri he got like 700k which is like 10-15 years of income to a lot of these families. Again we’re looking at this as fans, kids are looking at this like most of us look at jobs though. This is a business decision right now and Missouri has done a good job trying to keep talent in state.

He will do well. He's very talented. But that offnse is putrid.

Dorkwitz has only money to sell.
He has a chance, at Missouri, to be a big fish in a small pond in his first year. That wouldn’t happen at UT due to the talent on hand, plus Matthews. Maybe it’s a long term business decision for him. He has a huge freshman year and waits for the offers to come in.

Do we know that with Wingo is getting an overall more amount from Mizzou than anywhere else? Feels like our offer probably would be on par if I had to guess. The early access to money is what we are hearing is selling it to these kids.

I can understand the Nwaneri commitment since he isn’t enrolling till May/June 2024. But Wingo being an EE and getting on campus in December means he’s getting the money a few months early and is that really all it takes? I mean I guess so. Moral of the story starting to look like don’t waste your time recruiting players from the state of Missouri in football.
Maybe the NIL deal is front loaded to motivate him to sign there. I have no idea how it works.

Or Mizzou could be offering a lot more money than anyone else

Mizzou has no QB.
They have two QBs that were highly regarded coming out of high school (Jake Garcia, Sam Horn), and I'm sure they are throwing nearly all their NIL resources for high school commits at Wingo and WN. Luther Burden will be a junior when those guys hit campus. The school also committed to Drinkwitz with a contract extension and big raise. I don't think they are a threat to us, but if they manage to start keeping top in-state talent, they can be a consistent 8 win team. Drinkwitz can be the next Mark Stoops. That's not the standard here, but that's good enough to energize the Missouri fan base.

I guess that’s the hope for them, but I think it will cause locker room problems. Not to mention 2-3 5-stars on a football roster don’t make near the impact they do like basketball. I know it’s what a portion of volnation wants us to do too, but I just don’t think it’s a good long term plan.

It's a terrible long term plan if you're goal is to build a championship program, but if you're average classes mostly consist of developmental 3* athletes, then adding a couple of 5*s every year is a major boost. Like I said, it can get you a consistent 8 wins with a big upset sprinkled in here and there. The biggest risk isn't necessarily the locker room, because it's dependant on in-state guys. The problem is keeping these guys in the program for 3-4 years when you're still a middle of the road program. After that initial early pay is a factor, you've lost that advantage. If they produce, they can make equal money elsewhere. If they don't, then you've paid well over premium rate to a bust.

$700K per year was the rumor right??

Mizzou has no QB.

They have several 4* QB's plus Brady Cook had a solid year for them last year and will be one of the few SEC QB's with starting Experience coming back. He's a pretty good QB and has a few weapons back. Don't understand Vol fans sleeping on them. Yea they were 6-7 last but had 4 losses by 7pts or less. Then 3 losses by 4pts or less including a 4 pt loss to GA, 3 pt loss at Aub, 7pt loss at Florida and a 4pt loss @ UK. Also a 10 pt loss to WF. WF was up by 3 until the final 4 minutes and scored late to make it 10.
