'24 MO WR Ryan Wingo (Texas commit)

The thing people keep missing is that we don't actually know who offers the most money. Mizzou may have just needed to match out of state schools to pull Nwaneri. People make assumptions but none of us know.
For me, if a kid wants NIL that's fine as long as it's icing on the cake and not his primary focus. For a kid who's simply looking for the best payday, I'm fine if he goes elsewhere.

Eh, I mean the only things MO has going for it is proximity to home and early NIL.

We've put multiple WRs in the NFL just since 2020. Does MO even have one in the NFL? We are an ascending program with great fan support and an exciting offense. MO is a mediocre program with mediocre fan support and a pretty average offense at best. Our HC should be here for a while. Dink could be gone in a year or two.

Seems like taking a risk for short term money.

Has the chatter of wingo committing sooner died down? Any chance we’ll try and get him to OV earlier in the season?

As much as I would like the sexy addition of Wingo, I am intrigued by Mikell too. And for sure see a wonderful trend analysis on our staff’s additions thru the portal, SO I will not freak out down the stretch.

Such a short-sighted career move for these kids. I get the allure at 17 years old, but man, someone with some good sense needs to get in these kids ear and make them understand the short-term financial implications do not outweigh the long-term ones. For them, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Eh, they probably plan to sprint to the portal after a year.

We will always be able to pull talent from the portal at WR with Heupel. Might be the least concerning position group for me.
The portal has changed CFB in many ways.

IMO, one of the more positive changes is that it tilts the advantage a little more to great coaches over great recruiters (especially the ones that do/say anything to get a commit). By the time most of these guys hit the portal, they know where the best opportunities are. Those aren't particularly with the guys who can talk a good game... but those who can actually coach.

IMO, Heupel will be one of the "winners" in that game.

The thought of this guy in this offense along with the other studs we've landed in the last three cycles. Mercy...

It’s especially short-sighted for Wingo because he’s an EE. It’s almost September. He can get to campus as early as mid-December and start earning money. He can’t wait 3 months to start collecting his check and go somewhere that is more likely to prepare him for the NFL? Makes little sense to me.

We should put all of our eggs in the Kam Mikell recruitment....

IMO...this ship has sailed and Mikell would be a helluva replacement and finish to this WR class

I do not wish him, Nwaneri, or Missouri luck. This poverty stricken undeserving of an SEC program is only barely staying alive partially due to a soon to be irrelevant NIL advantage.

Vols by fiddy 😎 💨

I don’t understand how you can commit to a coach who has had back to back losing seasons. I get money but UGA, OU, and us have wayyy more money

Does anyone know his relationship with the home state school growing up? With ever growing THE NFL WILL FIND YOU mantra, the game day and other logistical cost savings, and the potential for community love the family gets for staying home, I can’t draw too big a line in the sand for these guys.

Distance is always a factor, just not weighted the same depending on family finances and the importance of and quantity of friends and family that have not missed a game since grade school.

Just not an exact science.

Yes.... Unless you blow out your knee in year one.

Exactly my point. 4 months of some low-level of immediate payout is hardly worth the sacrifice of the larger payout after enrolling and obviously the better development, winning culture, better exposure. And I'm not necessarily claiming Tennessee is the clear and obvious (only) answer. I just know Missouri isn't.

But even then, you've gotten something no matter where you go (Mizzou, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, etc). And knee injuries aren't the career-ender they once were. I just don't believe for one second that Ryan Wingo is going to earn any kind of life-changing money for 4 months by committing to Mizzou at age 17.
