'24 MO WR Ryan Wingo (Texas commit)

His logic may be that he will be THE GUY there and with his going in notoriety that may be a great path to the NFL. Mom and friends are happy every home game day.
That works as long as he really doesn't care about winning.

Unlike many here... I don't hate Mizzou. One of my sons went there and majored in business. He's done amazingly well since graduating. I like Missouri as a state. The people are great and it has been good to me and my family.

That said the chances of anyone much less Drink assembling enough talent to truly compete is very low for the foreseeable future. If the kid wants to win and his best path to the NFL then he needs to go elsewhere.

Tennessee should pass a law allowing any kid who commits to start getting paid in high school no matter what state he is from
I wondered about this as well and I'd love to hear someone with actual knowledge of the law(not a random message board poster who wants to guess) to weigh in on this. I assume that it works with in state recruits because they are making their parents sign some type of agreement as well? I'm not sure how you would force a 17 yo to do something once they've been paid. I imagine they could just take the money and go to another school. I wonder if they can go after the parents because they are in state?

Question is how much Missouri can pay to hold the wheels on that program bc at the end of the day it’s Missouri still.
More money available than you might think. That may be part of the play. A lot of guys who have the money to donate do not believe Mizzou is serious about winning. They may be trying to show they're serious.

Mizzou has a lot of ties into the Ag industry... and there is a LOT of money in the Ag industry.

I don't think they could do that without the other states making it legal as well.

Maybe they could do that if the kid moved to TN for their last year of HS? A good NIL would pay enough for mom and dad to move.

5* Luther Burden stayed home in Missouri. Maybe recruits really like Dorkowitz 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Alternative possibility: They’re doing the complete opposite of us with NIL. Instead of getting a balanced class every year they’re attempting to throw all their money at 1 or 2 players and then bring in a bunch of 3* guys to fill the rest of the class.

Similar to the stars and scrubs approach that the Rams have deployed

Has the chatter of wingo committing sooner died down? Any chance we’ll try and get him to OV earlier in the season?

Why do we even need a state law to do this? If we could have these kids getting paid before they reached campus, I’d guess there’s a mere 1% chance they choose some horsesh!t program like missouri over us. Ridiculous.

2024 Recruit Football Team Rankings

Currently, Missouri is #55 overall, and butt naked last in the SEC, in the 247 sports Class of 2024 Composite Football Team Rankings.

I have never seen a team with a 5 star commitment on their list, this far down in the composite team rankings before. Without Nwaneri, their class would be on par with the Florida Atlantic's and Miami of Ohio's of the world.

Wingo has to be aware of this ... Missouri is already garbage. They are about to get even worse. Drinkshitz can not recruit. They are 15 spots below Vanderbilt (while having a 5 star player in the fold). That should tell you how bad the rest of their class is.

Also, since we were (are) supposed to get an OV in November and now possibly not even a chance, does this change the thinking of waiting to OV during the season for other prospects?

the fact Mizzou is below Vanderbilt, a school that does not care about any sport except baseball, is hilarious. Poverty program
At least so far, Vanderbilt's class is much better than Missouri's. If you take Nwaneri off of Missouri's commitment list, it becomes something you would expect to see from a Sun Belt Conference team. They are gonna be bad. I'm talking South Carolina from 1998-1999 bad.

Fair enough on the knee. Was just using it as an example. What about a Chucky Mullins type injury? Career ending and life altering. I just can't blame any of them for choosing what they feel is best for them. I have zero clue if any of this even pertains to this kid. Only a bunch of internet rumors at this point. Very possible they could be true, just don't know.

Would think the offers would be in the same ball park, just have no idea what his personal situation is. If my family was in dire need I'd take less money if I was able to get it right away. You know, like a "if the mortgage isn't paid in 2 weeks your evicted" situation. Is all just a bunch of what ifs and speculation at this point.

We'll see how it all plays out eventually. Would like to see him in orange, but if not, we'll still be just fine.
You make fine points. Extreme examples most likely, but fine points all the same. If a kid's family is a couple weeks from being homeless, I got no problem with them taking the money. I doubt that is the issue for Wingo based on the number of unofficial visits he's made on his own dime (allegedly), but if it were the case, I don't think anyone would fault him for doing what he had to do in the moment. The real issue in that case would/should be with a school/collective exploiting a kid's circumstances to control his future.

I agree. We just have no idea if he's being exploited. I know that was the worst case example I gave but nothing's promised.

Is possible he's getting bad advice but is also possible we sign him. He may like living in Missouri for all I know. Could be a homebody.

We'll know for sure come December!

GBMFO!

Seems like there is a lot that is not guaranteed. Getting a lot of money right now while hoping all your other dreams come true is a real deal hard to turn down.
I don't disagree. I do, however, question how much is "a lot of money" before they are even locked into the school. As previously stated, I have a hard time believing any of these kids are getting truly life-altering upfront money ahead of signing their national letter of intent.

I have a hard time believing it too, but that is what reporters are reporting. I don’t understand how it could possibly not be against the rules.

Texas insiders are saying Wingo will be visiting us for the South Carolina game. I don't know if that is unofficial or if he moved up his official. I also don't know if this has been confirmed. Just passing this info along since he could be moving up his commitment date.
