The man on trial for the 2018 murder of Mollie Tibbetts gave shocking testimony in an Iowa courtroom on Wednesday that two armed men wearing masks forced him to drive up the college student the night she went missing.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera answered questions through a translator from his defense attorney Jennifer Frese in Scott County District Court in Davenport, Iowa, about what happened the night of July 18, 2018, when the 20-year-old University of Iowa student disappeared.

Bahena Rivera testified that two masked men wielding a gun and a knife appeared in his living room after he finished taking a shower and ordered him into his car, a black Chevy Malibu.

He said one man got in behind him and the other next to him. He testified that he followed their orders to drive and then stop near a jogger, whom he now recognizes was Tibbetts.

What a screwed up legal system we have. After 3 years the suspect and his slimy attorney come up with an unbelievable excuse. When a defendant lies on the stand they should automatically get double sentence, and their attorney should be prohibited from practicing for 6 months. Was it the Greeks or romans that the lawyer go the same punishment as the guilty client.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera was found guilty on first-degree murder

The media appeared to have downplayed the migrant status of the murderer who was convicted in the brutal 2018 killing of 20-year-old college student Mollie Tibbetts.

However, media outlets are burying the fact that Rivera was in the country illegally when he murdered Tibbetts.

"Farm worker found guilty of killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts," CNN wrote in its headline.

CNN's report didn't mention that the convicted murderer was an "undocumented immigrant" from Mexico until the fifth paragraph.

The AP similarly ran the headline, "Farm laborer convicted in 2018 stabbing death of Iowa runner."

Lawyers for illegal immigrant convicted of murdering Mollie Tibbetts call for a new trial as jail informant claims he heard the 'real killer' confess behind bars

The lawyers for man who was convicted of murdering Mollie Tibbetts want a new trial as two informants claim he was framed and that they know the identity of the 'real killer'.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera, a 27-year-old Mexican national, was convicted earlier this year by a jury of first-degree murder in the July 2018 stabbing death of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts in Brooklyn, Iowa.

However, two informants who do not know each other have separately come forward since Rivera's highly publicized trial - claiming the same person confessed to the crime to them.

One of the informants, a prisoner housed by the Iowa Department of Corrections, has been named as Arne Maki by Law and Crime.

The inmate is believed to be Maki because court documents filed for Rivera's sentencing hearing name Maki as a witness ordered to appear before the court on Thursday.
