More Absurd Coach Rankings

So Fulmer is a better coach than Friedgen?

Tell me you are not arguing that?

If you think that Friedgen is a better coach than Fulmer, you need to watch some football. That is the dumbest stance I've ever seen you take TVA. What has Friedgen done? Under Armour Commercials. That is all

When West Virginia plays defense their coach can be ranked in the top 15. Until then he's ranked too high

They couldn't stop UofL. Most teams don't, especially at Papa John's. Other than that, what's so bad about their D? They didn't get to and win the Sugar Bowl a couple of years ago without some D.

He's given up 21.7 ppg in his 6 seasons. Conversely, South Florida has allowed 20.9 in the same span.

His record doesn't reflect the job he is doing IMO, I think that program is only about a year or two away from consistently challenging Nebraska for the top of that division. He is a heck of a recruiter too.

Remember, this team was an overtime game against Nebraska and blown leads against OK St., Texas A&M and Baylor from being the class of the Big 12 North. When has Kansas ever played that many close games? Mangino has them headed in the right direction.

You are kidding surely, I mean nothing against Mangino but you are naming 4 losses in the Big 12 north and 1 of them being a blown lead to Baylor......the Big 12 north and Baylor......need to bring more than that to the table.

Bobby Bowden is overrated at 11. The guy took advantage of a lot of talent at Florida State and beat up on weak ACC competition. Now that the ACC has added more power to their league, where does he finish?

On top in 2005.

The fact that Kirk Ferentz is better than Urban Meyer is alone enough to print this list out and use it for your dog to go on.

Bobby Bowden is overrated at 11. The guy took advantage of a lot of talent that he brought to a girls' school and finished in the top five for 14 years in a row. Now that the ACC has added more power to their league, where does he finish?

Fixed your post.

The problem with almost all lists like this is that they fail to explicitly answer the most important question -- exactly what are they ranking? Coaches right now, or over the course of their careers? His top two of Carroll and Tressel seem to indicate that he means right now, but if that's the case, then why is why is Urban Meyer all the way down at #12? and why is Bowden still up at #11? If he means over a career, though, then having Bowden and Spurrier all the way down at 11 and 9 is idiotic.

You have to specify what the criteria are if you want to end up with a consistent and useful ranking. Most of these lists fail to do that, even in the author's mind, and so they just end up as a mish-mash approach. Which is why they almost always end up so internally inconsistent and incoherent.
