More heart than I have seen in 15 years

It's easier for the legion of the miserable to be grumpy bastards than admit that there were some positives in this game. It sucks to lose but there were some bright spots.
Absolutely there were positives.
Nobody gives a **** about them anymore.
Everyone is tired of "but there were positives to take away from that game! we can build on that"

Yep. We loved Butch's positivity and feel good quotes. We also loved the fact that Gump Cornbread was country and "a real football coach." Then we denigrated those coaches for the same reasons on their way out.
When I see "Heupel is changing the culture" is when I roll my eyes the hardest.

Teddy's words from "Man in the Arena" stills hold true to this very day. Would be nice if certain of our fans have the good sense to embrace the spirit of those words.

I try to keep that quote in mind watching any athletic event.

Doubly so since players are now young enough to be the same age as my kids.

Stupid call in 4th and 6 inches, period! S T U P I D

No, it was a good call. We had seven blockers (five linemen, tight end, and H back) to match their front seven. Should have been an easy 6 inches. The problem was execution. The left tackle and the TE and H back all turned and blocked inside, clogging the running lanes and leaving a linebacker on either side untouched. Those two (#36 and #0) converged on Wright, who couldn't find a hole anyway, and tackled him for the loss. The untouched defenders are what kept Wright from bouncing outside one way or the other when the middle was clogged. This was a perfectly good football play and a reasonable call in that situation. The players didn't execute it. You can watch it right HERE.

ALSO: Hooker could have kept the ball. He might not have scored, but he could have gotten the first down before #26 could get to him.

Don't forget people liked Dooley for saying "britches".

I see what you’re saying but if you can’t execute that play in a critical situation it’s a bad call imo.
No reason why OUR O line can’t run a simple QB sneak under center for 6 inches. That would of been the only call in that situation imo. If the O can’t execute a sneak for that short of a yardage, we have huge problems. Sometimes simpler is better……….

Y'all are basing all your hopes of improvement on BGU and Pitt

That "improvement" and "heart" is about to disappear once we hit the SEC schedule

Sure, you'll be excited again once we beat TN Tech

The " I got a feeling we are going to beat Florida" posts come up. Then we go to.Florida and get ran out of the stadium by the 1st half

This is a bad team for many reasons. It doesnt help when you amplify that by bad coaching and there is plenty of that to go around

This " improved" D is about to get toasted and part of that is going to be from the offense running too fast against teams with better defenses that can stop this gimmick offense
I remember when you didn’t post for a long time. Those were happy days.

We’ve really fallen hard. I remember when moral victories came against top ten teams. Now we get them against Pitt.

Lol

We are really living in the past.

Tennessee = 8 losing seasons over the past 13

Pitt = 1 losing season over the past 13

No……Pitt’s no Bama……..but there no “Tennessee” either.

It is what it is.

no moral victory about it. Last years team would have rolled over and died. This years team did all kinds of things wrong, but kept fighting against a better team with more depth, and came within a foot of possibly being able to win the game.

I agree with the overall message of the OP, this team showed fight and didn't quit, but with all of the attrition and new systems on both sides of the ball, getting to 6 wins will be an achievement. That said, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves to think we'll be national contenders in 2023, by 2023 hopefully we are good for 7-8 wins and no losses of 20 or more.

The CFP will be up to 8-12 teams by then. If we’re at least a top 15-20 team two seasons from now, we’ll be in the discussion. I would classify that as a national contender.

rofl every coach we hire, these dudes come out saying "we finally have a real football coach" "he is the exact opposite of the last coach! such a breath of fresh air!"
and dont forget the tried and true "but he has them not quitting"

I have not been to a game in 14 years. I did not like that Fulmer was ousted. I didn’t get enough of a read on Kiffin since he was only here a year. I didn’t like the Dooley hire at the time b/c he was an egotistical narcissist living off of the royalties of his famous father. I knew Jones’ success at Cincinnati was with Brian Kelly’s players and he wasn’t a very bright guy so didn’t believe in that hire. From the get go, Pruitt had an ego the size of Texas with a brain the size of Rhode Island, so he wasn’t going to work. Heupel is the first coach since 2008 who knows what he’s doing and puts the team before himself. I bought tickets this year and firmly believe CJH will have us in the top 20 by year 3. Get on board, folks.
