Most humiliating loss of Butch era

So you really think there is very little difference between a team with 6 straight #1 classes and one with 6 straight #8 classes?

Ypur agenda has been exposed.

My agenda is for my university not to be embarrassed at home on national television.

Not a lot of difference between 1 and 8. At some point there has to be accountability as to why the oline players are not being developed, the problems at wide receiver, and a senior quarterback playing like a freshman.

I appreciate everything CBJ has done for this program. He has recruited the talent to win 7 or 8 games a year with this inept coaching staff. Imagine what a real coaching staff that can develop players could do.

I don't want CBJ gone, just the swim coach, the WKU receivers coach, and the MAC oline coach.

Ok, feel free to jump off that bridge. Just realize that this season does actually include a win over Florida. Team is 5-2, and in the drivers seat for the East. Yes, I'm pathetic dearie.

You are pathetic. Check your facts before you post. TN IS NOT in the drivers seat for the East! TN needs to win out in the SEC & needs FL to lose one.

Yes this season does include a win over FL & a Hail Mary over GA with a first year coach who just lost to Vanderbilt. TN does not look very good in Butch' 4th yr. I'll take 5-2 vs 4-3 or 3-4 anyday but the reality is TN needs help now to win the SECe

LSU has like a 72% chance of winning the FL game on ESPNs FPI (not the greatest predictor but still). Getting them at home helps a ton.

It was a horrible loss, but I haven't forgotten the last 10 years. People have short memories.

We've come a long way but I've never seen a first team as completely injured as this one is right now. I just hope we can get a few back after the bye week.

I sure hope so. Unfortunately TN needs help now and is no longer in the drivers seat or no longer controls their own destiny.

Go clutch your pearls somewhere else. 5-2 is still a great start, and with any luck, the team is still in contention for the East. Getting some depth back in the next few weeks will make the rematch with A&M or Bama in the championship game interesting and potentially a great story.

In Butch's 4th year as head coach, we should rely on luck to make the SEC championship game? Don't you think we've relied on enough luck already?

We just got annihilated by our biggest rival, with Butch's best team, at home. There is no silver lining, nothing pretty or positive about it.

No, we are not in the drivers seat. That would belong to Florida now.

There you go thud, I mean thundr: TN just got annihilated...

Butch has to be the luckiest coach ive ever seen. Legacy recruiting classes. getting to follow a guy who makes maintaining the APR look like an accomplishment. And then the weakest SEC east since divisions and still might not win it.

Pixie dust, bullcrap. this team is injured because it is constantly out of position and the offense keeps throwing the defense under the bus.

One word .....INJURIES! Take 8 starters off of ANY team and it wouldn't matter who the coach is. Not just any starters but 3 of your best defensive players and 4 starters on your O line out. Be realistic with your expectations.

Was fully aware of the injuries. Was fully aware of bama being good. Just ask Verne and Gary and they'll tell you!! But man. Was Not expecting for us to be destroyed at home. Was kind of hoping the days of leaving Neyland hearing the opposing teams celebrating and hooping and hollering and their band playing were done.

BECAUSE of the sacks, which is because the Oline couldn't hold up. Greatest play caller in the world couldn't mask our line play.

How many first down passes did we call? How many first down slants? Our offensive play calling was so predictable that we made their defense look better. It is easier playing defense if you know what the offense is trying to do.

First down run for 2 yards

Second down run for -3 yards

Third down and 11? Well, I guess we will pass. (Blitz).

That is what I am frustrated about. There was nwver an attempt to go off script and pass early in the downs to try to keep the defense honest and off balance. Of course, how many slants have we run this year?

Also, did we even try to throw deep at all? Even if it is just a step back and heave to give the receiver a chance to go get it. Their corners were crowding the line and jumping each pass because they knew we would not throw deep. Almost like they were at out practices all week.

Come on guys. Were you expecting a win playing mostly 2nd and 3rd team players against the number one team in the nation? Tennessee is absolutely destroyed with injuries. Worst I've ever seen in my 50 years of following them. 7 out of 18 returning starters were out and several backups were out. The drop off in speed was very apparent. Bama entered the game with what ? 2 injuries on the entire team? Butch needs to continue to develop depth with quality players or it won't get better.

I despise Lane Kiffin as much as anyone but yesterday he demonstrated whan an offensive coordinator should be and do. He was imaginative and put his players in a position to perform and got the ball to his stars. His scheme was brilliant. At one time they ran the same play 3 times in a row IIRC and the Vols were unable to stop it at any point. He attacked UT's weaknesses [which are numerous without its starters] and kept the Vols off balance all afternoon.

Going 2 and 2 during a horrendous scheduling gauntlet with no breaks and a crap ton of injuries is pretty remarkable IMO. With just a break or two and not turning the ball over this team would have gone 3 and 1. CBJ doesn't fumble the ball or throw interceptions.
I have to admit I'm not impressed with Debord and his 2nd and NFL mentality though. Shoop can't install 5 star speed into a 3rd team defensive player either. It's too bad the score was so ugly but it is one loss whether by a single point or by 39. I'm sure the team feels like it was unacceptable as well as Jones. We still can go 10-2 which is miles ahead of 3 or 4 years ago. We better not take that for granted though. Time to get well and refocus.

His buddy is not doing so hot in south bend either. This offense is a bulls*** offense.

We had an easy schedule most of the way so far. The two good teams beat us.

Yes and most pre-season polls had us losing the TAM and Bama games and finishing 10-2 and winning the SEC East. So far they are right. We shall see what happens next. Need to get healthy fast.

We had a lot of injuries, and that definitely contributed to the slaughter.

That said, I believe this team has reached the Butch Jones ceiling. Butch is a great recruiter and a mediocre coach. With talent, he can get us to 9 maybe 10 wins. That's really good and I can commend him for stabilizing our program. This loss may have been embarrassing but we aren't embarrassed against Vandy, KY, etc. at least. He was placed in a deep hole and got us out of it

But the offensive schemes have been puzzling. The end of game management in several games both last year and this year has been frustrating. Why have we been coming out so flat against everyone?

I think he'll be our coach for at least another 2-4 years. I fear to see what happens as our recruiting starts to decline, though.

Why weren't we able to get a more serviceable offensive line after 4 years of recruting? Why couldn't we find a serviceable qb to replace Josh Dobbs, who is a smart, great guy but clearly is missing that spark?

I'm not a doomsdayer but I've accepted that this is probably as much as we can expect out of his teams. With Butch, I think we will be the orange version of Richt's Georgia teams - maybe a little less success. We'll sit at #2 or #3 in the East but never win an SEC championship or Natty. But at least we're not Dooley's Vols
I agree we need to start recruiting a lot of big strong OL that can open the holes and block. That is our biggest weakness. BTW, what ever happened to Mosley?

As far as QB to replace Dobbs...we have Dormady, Guaratano and Jones and Fields on the way. Plenty to choose from to run the read option offense. We need OL to make it work no matter who is QB.

Bama is just a better team with more talent right now. It's hard to beat a team that has the top recruits every year.
We have to continue to recruit at a high level and bring more talent ( sorry anti star counters but more often than not it is indicative).
My fear is to bring in high powered offensive weapons we will need a more inticeing offense that will help kids generate the numbers they need for the next level. Not blaming him for the loss but Debord's (joneS') offense is boring, predictible, and unexplosive. We need a good OC to take us to the next level in wins and recruiting.
