Movies you thought looked stupid but ended up being one of your favorites

The Crazies.

I blew this one off thinking it was just another run of the mill horror movies when I saw the previews. Finally rented it and after I watched it. I immediately called up two friends and told them they need to watch that movie.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer

Fallen - Denzel Washington

The American President - Michael Douglas

Even after watching it Raising Arizona didn't really make that much sense...still one of my favorites.

Other movies I just sort of "bumped into" over the years that came away as favorites;

The Negotiator-I didn't even know the movie existed when I first saw it
V for Vendetta-Natilie Portman and a masked dude. This should be great, right?
Tucker & Dale vs Evil-if you haven't seen it I won't be able to make sense of it for you.
Forgetting Sarah Marshal-I watched it solely for Kunis and Bell. I like the whole thing.
Kick Ass-Sometimes I still don't know why I like this movie as much as I do. (someday, if she doesn't go all Lindsey Lohan on us, Chloe Moretz is going to own the world)

Then there's the ones I'm almost ashamed to list. I was sure they were going to be stupid, and I was right, but God help me I still laugh at Zoolander, Austin Powers, Galaxy Quest & Super Troopers.

There should be almost another category for "kids movies" that you turned out liking as an adult. Monsters Inc I guess was the first that really got me thinking this...I laughed a LOT. Same with Ice Age and that damn psycho crypto-squirrel. Most recently Tangled. I watched that with a couple neices and straight-up hee-hawed in several places. I could watch a whole movie based on the horse.

There is no shame in laughing at Super Troopers. Kinda surprised that group hasn't had another great comedy (Beer Fest had moments but overall fell flat).

While I'm here I'll add another...

Mean Girls

My wife makes fun of me because if its on TV I usually stop and watch it.

Super Troopers is supposed to be getting a sequel soon, getting my hopes up for that because me and my high school football buddies used to quote entire scenes from that movie at each other.

amélie is another. I wouldn't call it an all time favorite but its a really good film. I don't mind subtitled movies but previews for foreign films rarely paint a good picture of what it's about. A buddy who usually sticks to action movies pressed me to watch it and i must say it was really enjoyable.

I would say Superbad and Bridesmaids. These are both films that I watched with a group of people. Most "stupid" movies I never get around to seeing just because I can tell by the previews I will mostly likely not want to see it. But I enjoyed these two and I would watch again.

If BoB doesn't count, since it's technically a mini-series, I would have to say Forrest Gump, too.

I think Forrest is winning.

Sweeney Todd.

Never thought I would like a musical. Ended up being one of my favorite movies.
