Movies you've seen recently II

Zack Snyder Justice League. Was very good and a darker like his Batman movies. I'll be honest, I couldn't pinpoint every difference btw his and JW's version but I recognized enough that it was better. The Ending was Spectacular and makes you definitely want to see his next one, if it happens.

If Leto's Joker is as good in the sequel as he is at the end of this, it will be awesome. Major twist with Deathstroke working with Batman and apparently they are fighting Superman bc Lois dies and he blames Batman.

Had a night off from work last weekend and ended up just watching a few flicks back to back on Hulu/Amazon Prime:

Reservoir Dogs- Really needs no mention. It was surprisingly just the second time I’ve watched it from beginning to end (I’m a pretty big QT fan). It’s kinda cool, being his first film, seeing all the references that would come in his later movies. Even some of the names of the characters.

The King of Staten Island- I really liked it. The humor was great and I thought it was a decently accurate portrayal of grief/mental illness.

Ma- Pretty weird movie. Not bad, but not great. Awkward acting at times, and I had mixed feelings on the ending. Thought they were gonna go in a different direction with the sick daughter. Overall I’ve seen much worse.

a decent portion of Semi-Tough this morning, but forgot that Lindsey Nelson and Paul Hornug were members of cast

We tried to watch "Con Men" last night. It is a Scottish film , and it's supposedly a very good movie. The type that we typically enjoy. It's heavy on dialogue, and we could not understand some of the actors. We've been to Ireland, England and Scotland. It takes me a day there to understand people in all three, but Scotland is the toughest.
Some of it could be getting old and not hearing as well.

I do CC anytime it's foreign accents.

I’ve seen a lot of British television, so I can typically understand their accents fairly easily. And Irish to a lesser extent. But a straight Scottish accent... I’ll probably need subtitles lol

Happily. I enjoyed. kind of a twilight zone vibe. 6/10

Cherry. Started off strong but fell into typical heroin addict tropes that were quite honestly boring. Should have cut about 20 minutes out of the third act. Tom Holland is great though. 7/10

The Vast of Night, currently available on Prime, is pretty good, but I thought "they stole this from the twilight zone". Wife liked it a little more.

Aniara is a weird Sci-Fi about a 3-week cruise to Mars getting bumped off course. It's Swedish. I thought it was worth a watch if you are a Sci-Fi nerd but it's definitely not for everybody. It's on Hulu.

I watched it. Some good and bad there. I really liked the long shots and was shot very well for it being all night scenes. I also got a bit bored with the very long dialogue scenes. Overall I appreciated what they were trying to do.

Watched "My Octopus Teacher" on Netflix. Pretty cool documentary about a scuba diver/filmmaker who developed a friendship of sorts with a common octopus over a the course of a year. Towards the end there is a rather emotional scene that was unexpected but the greater message ends up being the guy building a better relationship with his son.

From the last couple of weeks:

1. The Courier 8/10
I read a lot about the Cuban missile crisis over the years but never heard about the backstory of how the US knew to look for the missiles. Excellent scene near the end of the movie when the Courier and the Russian spy were allowed to see each other for the final time in prison.

2. Nobody 7/10 Decided to watch this because of Bob Odenkirk. Shoot’em up violent High School level film but it’s just good fun watching Odenkirk and Christopher Lloyd.

3. White Boy Rick 9/10
Netflix documentary on Detroit’s drug and crime history and political corruption from the early to mid 1980’s. Really chronicles the early periods of Detroit’s slide into the wasteland it became. Excellent.

4. The College Admissions Scandal. 7/10
Netflix Documentary. Good documentary with partially acted scenes. I would have ranked this an 8/10 if the privileged princess Lori Loughlin had received more time in prison because of her defiance in the first few months of the scandal before she finally pled guilty.

Dear wife and I choose on alternating nights.
Thursday she chose "Bliss" 3/10. What the f--- is going on? Shock and awe? Drug abuse? Mental illness?

Last night I chose Barney Thomson. Another Scottish film. A dark comedy. Excellent acting, funny lines.
9/10.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. 1965. Wife said the movie we watched Monday night, "Carnage" reminded her of this movie so we watched it Tuesday night. Yes, its 4 adults. But it has very little comedy or maybe the comedy is too dark for me to appreciate. No real violence, but pure misery. It will turn you against alchohol.
Hard to believe Liz Taylor was 33 when she made this movie. She won academy award. All four actors were excellent. George Segal died about 2 weeks ago. He was the grandfather on the Goldbergs.
I hated how it made me feel, but have to give it 10/10.

The Shape of Water - 3/5

Finally got a chance to see this and was very disappointed. It was just okay. IMO

I'm still not sure what the premise was about other than it being a heavily influenced by Creature from the Black Lagoon in a modern take. I'd have give a 3.5 maybe a 4 if the chick and the lizard had went full "Untamed"😉

I said it when it happened and I'll say it now how the hell did this beat Dunkirk for Best Picture?

We watched 2 movies this weekend.

Ingrid goes west. A dark comedy chick flick. It was ok. Good acting. I give it a 6. My chick wife would probably give it a an 8.

2nd movie was Kiss kiss bang bang. POS dark commedy, 2005. Val Kilmer was at his best which isn't saying much. Robert Downey Jr. was terrible. Why does this guy get parts in movies? Michelle Monahan was good. What a waste of time. 2/10.

I watched "I Care A Lot" on Netflix last night. I didn't like it all that much. Typically for me, when I watch a movie there has to be at least one character for me to root for and honestly, in this movie NOBODY is likeable. I pretty much hated every character in this movie and, not to spoil anything, but everything that happened to these people in the movie was well deserved.

Saw "Nobody" at the theater yesterday. I really enjoyed the style and Bob Odenkirk is always a delight to watch. It got a little stupid toward the end, betrayed its grittiness with campiness. All in all I enjoyed it. 7.5/10
