Movies you've seen recently II

Lansky (Amazon Prime)

I love mafia movies and this movie is based on true events as a now elderly Meyer Lansky recalls his life as the "mob's accountant" and ties to Ben "Bugsy" Segal and Lucky Luciano. I found it interesting so gave it a 7 / 10.

No Time to Die. Ummm I can't say much without colossal spoilers but wow is it going to be a hot topic. Too long in the tooth though but...
Wow. Just wow.

I gave it 6.5. What happened to his money or was he just an accountant?

I wondered that too. Reading up on him, it sounds like he probably hid it with different people including family members, but when he died, he didn't have much to his name. Interesting life.

His son that had cerebral palsy was left nothing. Was an indigent in a long term care facility.

I had heard Blood In Blood Out was good and so I looked everywhere for it. Wasn't streaming anywhere. Found it on DVD on Amazon for $5 and had to wait weeks for it to show up. Wow, what a disappointment. I couldn't finish it. The story was good but the production quality was terrible. The dialog was a little forced, the acting was bad, but the biggest problem is the sound mixing is so, so bad. It rivals old kung fu movies in that regard. The actors never had a chance with that ********. They all just seemed horrible. I guess this was cool on TBS in 1994, but it didn't age well.

Sator: 6.5/10
It’s a slow burn horror movie. Very atmospheric, builds that sense of dread very well. Worth watching for horror fans

The taking of Deborah Logan: 7/10
Seen this one a few times, the main actress playing Deborah is creepy.

GHOSTBUSTERS: Afterlife - 4/5

I really enjoyed it. I thought the young cast did great and it brought a smile to my face. The ending also brought tears to my eyes as well.

I think it's a great reboot to the franchise after that monstrosity from 2016.

Have you seen “Dr Sleep” released about a year ago? I enjoyed it. Decent continuation of “The Shining” storyline IMO with an excellent female villain role by Rebecca Ferguson.

I really enjoyed this movie. Have watched it about 5 times. Rebecca Ferguson is such a natural beauty and did a great job as "Rose the Hat".

Mosquito Coast (1986) - Almost feels like a Harrison Ford fever dream movie. Well-acted, particularly by Ford. Beautiful cinematography. But as with most Peter Weir movies, it's pretty pretentious. I'm not exactly sure what the movie's message is. I don't think the movie knows what its message is, mostly because the main-character is really a bad guy and the moral flip-flops. The mother was loyal to a fault, and foolish. Two things from the movie best sum it up, and are the two things I for sure agree with:

1. The worst (and most dangerous) kind of know-it-all is the one who is sometimes right
2. Nature is crooked

Ride The Eagle 8/10. Jake Johnson indie. Short and sweet. Also stars Susan Sarandon and JK Simmons.

Eyes of Tammy Faye 8/10 Incredible well-acted. Chastain will get an Oscar nod.

House of Gucci 7/10 Another well-acted film. I enjoyed it. Lady Ga Ga will get an oscar nod but Jared Leto stole the show.

Queenpins 6.5/10. Guy that played Richard Jewel in the Atlanta Olympic bombing movie stole the show to me. A couple laugh out loud scenes

I took my 3 YO to Sing 2 and it was pretty good. The trailers made it look like sequel garbage, and it did basically follow exactly the same plot with higher stakes, but it might've actually been better than the first. A packed theater helped. It was a good vibe. The lady next to us was looking up the lyrics to the songs and singing along with them, and I didn't mind.

Anyone of you junkies watch Black Friday yet? Zombie ish film set in toy store on black Friday? I mean I get it and all but wondering if anyone has seen

Hard to beat going to the movies with your kids

House of Gucci 7/10. I agree with @bignewt. Lady Gaga is an insanely talented person. I watched half the movie before it dawned on me that Jared Leto was Paulo. An example of truth being stranger than fiction.

King Richard 6/10. It gives a different, more positive view of the Williams sister's dad. It leaves out a lot of the dirt but they still have a great story.

Ghostbusters Afterlife 5.5/10. MUCH better than the last attempt of a Ghostbusters movie. It's a fitting tribute to the original. If you loved the original, you'll love this one too.

Eternals 3/10. Exactly as @MG1968 said....eternally boring.

Belfast 5/10. Slow but interesting view of life at the start of the Northern Irish conflict. It won multiple international awards so I guess I had higher expectations. Not worth paying theater prices but worth a watch streaming.

Silent Night. Not sure how to describe it, but I'd just skip it. 3/10 is being generous.

The Machinist, How does an actor play Dick Cheney and this guy? I 'd think the body change would be dangerous.
Very suspenseful, although a little too weird at times. Good to the very end. 7

"Demolition" Similar to above. Jake Gyllenhaal is excellent as usual. 5.5

The Gift, anther suspenseful movie. Excellent story. 6.5
