Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom
7/10
An entertaining good direct sequel to Aquaman.
The movie has continuity from the first movie including Black Manta’s extraordinary suit is shown to be highly damaged which makes sense because it was highly damaged in an action scene from the Aquaman movie, scenes from the first movie when Black Manta puts the Black Trident together, also when Ocean Master puts the black trident together, characters talking about events from the first movie, and Orm Marius aka Ocean Master shown to be in an imprisoned area which is consistent with what was said after the climax in Aquaman.
2 small nitpicks are it’s very nonsensical that Orm doesn’t have greasy hair because the movie doesn’t show or state he’s been able to wash his hair during the long amount of time he’s been in a not ordinary Prison, also Arthur not saying anything about a strong stinky odor when he sees Orm since Orm hasn’t showed for a long amount of time exceeding 1 month.
The 2 reasons why I say this isn’t a great sequel because the movie fails to create a suspenseful tone for the Earth being endangered other than Thomas Curry seeing a News channel talking about the multiple natural disasters happening in the world, and the climax of Aquaman vs Kordax is anticlimactic.
The sequel is reusing aspects from the Aquaman movie, however it stands on its own as a movie which means it avoids being a Die Hard 2, Home Alone 2 Lost in New York, or any other lazy uncreative sequel that mostly copies the first movie.
This sequel explores the brother relationship of Arthur aka Aquaman and Orm since Aquaman has to team up with Ocean Master to defeat Black Manta because he has become more powerful after he gets the cursed Black Trident.
The movie succeed with showing off the abilities Black Manta has after getting the cursed black trident.
This sequel does have multiple entertaining Aquaman fighting Black Manta action scenes, and other entertaining action scenes.
Also multiple scenes of Aquaman wearing his iconic Green and Orange costume.
Black Manta succeeds as a charismatic main antagonist with an understandable violent vengeance goal.
The movie gave information for how Black Manta plans to achieve his goal..
It’s unsurprising that Orm dislikes Arthur after what happened in the Aquaman movie, however because of good writing it’s believable that Orm stops disliking Arthur.
The movie provides evidence of this because of the compliments that he gives Arthur which fits in the scene instead of being shoehorned in or forced.
Orm is shown to be a likable protagonist in this sequel which is earned because of the needed save the cat style scenes.
I was very happy seeing Orm eat a hamburger while at a restaurant on land.
This sequel provides enough important information to understand why Orm stops having awful view of humans as an inferior species, also why he quits having a prejudicial negative view of food made by humans both of which avoid easy plot holes.
A huge plot hole about why the Atlanteans won't be searching for Orm is removed because of a believable explanation.
The movie stands out for details that is the ship and technology Black Manta uses, also his new mostly black suit that includes a Silver helmet matches the aesthetic of the New 52 mainstream continuity version and the Silver Age.
The movie explains what should be explained including what exactly is the Lost Kingdom, important details about why the Black Trident is cursed, and a believable reason why a character decided to hide an underwater kingdom.
It’s believable why Aquaman decides to announce that Atlantis is real to the world while on a TV news channel shown in multiple countries, also his intention to make Atlantis a member state of the United Nations.
It’s a believable change because the movie gave important information.
It’s a well made movie that respects the audience since Aquaman never states why exactly he decided to announce to the world on live TV that Atlantis is a real underwater Kingdom since the movie provides the important information so most likely the audience understands why Aquaman made that decision, and anything else that isn’t directly stated or explained because the movie gives important information.
It’s a sequel that has changes in this DC Cinematic Aquaman movie universe , and gave me satisfying closure.
