Why are we hung up on a couple of million for assistants? Mind boggling. Is Hart just incompetant and afraid to have a rock star on his turf? Perhaps Gruden was never on Hart's list. The longer Hart remains silent the more guilty he appears. The stink from this is just starting.

I agree. If you think about it. You make up the gap in just one home game....in terms of number of buttocks sitting in the bleachers.

Will be interesting to hear how this really went down when the dust clears.
You think Hart is going to reveal where he screwed it up? That's why they went into denial mode today. If there was indeed no offer made. No communications until yesterday, then Hart should be fired. That's 10 days of sitting on his keester....while other teams are hard after it, in their coaching searches.

I think your trying to find something that is not there. Gruden was not hired. Hart does not need to explain anything.

Actually he does, because short of hiring Petrino, which is almost certainly not going to happen, he has now ensured that UT is going to continue wallowing in mediocrity. The list of guys down past Gruden and Petrino is pretty pathetic.

And you or noone else can guarantee that ANY hire Hart makes turns out to be bad. Kirby Smart could be hired and win 9 games next year. Al Golden could be hired and win 10. You can't judge a man until he has put in the work and did the job or failed at trying.

I been following this for weeks. On here and other sites. I think hart needs to go. Rid ourselves of all these bama guys. Hire fulmer as the AD. He can help keep gruden straight on ncaa rules. And hire gruden as the coach. My two cents.
i think its the fans and boosters against hart and his ego. And so far all i have seen from hart is nothing. He hasnt left knoxville.

what part of "Gruden wasn't interested " do you not understand....
had nothing to do with money to assistants...and all these "insiders" need to wipe the egg off their faces...

NOBODY had a clue....

I am beginning to wonder why any class coach would want to come here and work with this administration.

It is funny to see people get on here and criticize the fan base. Try having a program without them. UT is fortunate to have such passionate fans. The fans are staying at home for a reason, as they should.

I just have to laugh at the fabricated stories on here. "It's a done deal", "Soon", "MOU", and when it all proves to be BS....

"Hart screwed us", "Hart is a spy", Dave Hart should be fired".

All because Gruden did not want to coach at UT. Forget the fact he wants 2 million a year more than any proven coach in college football. Forget the fact that he want's to be able to hire/fire anyone. (Petrino and the volleyball chic sound familiar? Yes, Gruden could do it and Hart be told to LIKE it). Gruden has always been known to have to crazy demands. Hart decided against them or Jon decided against UT. IMO, it is for the best.

I just know how hiring a mid-major project worked out for us last time. If that's what we get stuck with in the end, then so be it. You can't win the lottery if you don't at least buy a ticket. It just frustrates me that its starting to look like our AD passed over a proven winner and went straight to the scratch and dents/bargain buys. This within 2 weeks of feeding the whole fanbase a line of bulls*** that money wasn't going to be an issue this time.

I hope you really don't believe he wasn't interested. That is what Hart is telling Jimmy and Brent to spew so it doesn't look like he F'd up.

I don't think there is an AD at any big time university that can hire or fire a football coach without the big time boosters blessing.

You have no absolute proof that money was the issue. Once again, just stories via the media or people on message boards. How long till people learn their lesson? Hart could have agreed to everything Gruden asked for. Gruden could have tried to get Hart to wait on a decision so he could consider NFL jobs coming open. Hart had apparently set a 5PM Friday deadline. No deal and moving on. I have no problem with it.

I love when people say "just a couple million."

"Just a couple million" is more than is in our reserve. Total.
It's $12 million over a six-year contract.
It's more than several very competent head coaches earn.

Two million dollars is a hell of a lot of money, bub. What is Dave Hart supposed to do? Put Peyton Manning's jockstrap under his pillow and hope the cash fairy brings it?

Sometimes I get the impression that some posters on VN think they're sh*ttin' in high cotton if their bank balance has a comma in it.

It's always easier to spend someone elses money. I doubt it had to do with money. IMO, Grudens other "demands"/"outs at any time" and his wanting to wait to see what other jobs came available is what stopped the talks. You can't just give the man anything he wants. Dave Hart did the right thing with UT's best interest in mind. I have no doubt about it.

Like I said, Hart promised in his press conference that money wasn't going to be the reason we didn't get a good coach. Barely 10 days later and it's starting to look like money may have in fact been one of the big sticking points in negotiations with the best available coach this season. If from the outset he had warned us that our current financial situation may cause us to have to go bargain hunting that would be one thing. Instead he fed us all a bunch of BS and ended up going the cheap route after all.
