Mr Hart VS Boosters(Power struggle)

If UT continues to spend so much less than everyone else, you can be damn sure we're going to continue to suck on a historic level. The bottom line is that with all the TV money pouring into the conference, every one of our rivals are now engaged in a financial arms race for coaches, and UT just simply refuses to participate. They've all figured it out, and UT is apparently still operating like it's the year 2000.

UF(11-1)and A&M spend MUCH less than 3 million a year for their HC's. Weird how that 2 million dollar hire Sumlin took it to Saban with his gimmick offense that would never work in the SEC.

He's still have TV as a fallback where he could make nearly as much money for a fraction of the work. Coaching may be where his heart truly is, but it's not like he'll be going hungry if things don't work out. His top candidates for NFL jobs are the Eagles and Chargers. Those two organizations are disasters, and far from a sure thing.

No doubt that he would land another TV job. He would not pull the same pay. He has built the Gruden name. It's become a brand in Football. That's why every recruit is holding their breath hoping Gruden comes. The top recruit and commitment to USC quote "if Gruden comes I will will listen". Recruits parents that would not talk to Tennessee are jumping on the news saying if Gruden come we would be interested. It was the name Gruden.

If he comes here and loses that's all over. He will have to rebuild his reputation. When no one wants him because he lost here and gets labeled a loser(Fulmer). How much do you think he we be worth.

Would you take that chance with your paycheck?

I wouldn't unless I got everything I wanted and I mean everything. Wouldn't you?

Ah, the mentality of those who are content at the bottom of the SEC barrel. I don't know why everyone thinks UT can have a lot of success while paying their coaches less than other SEC coaches make at easier jobs. The time has come to just bite the bullet and hire a winner if we can get one. Apparently the AD doesn't feel the same way. He's still content to dumpster dive just like Hamilton.

8 mill would be the highest path staff in the SEC....no content at all...with Ut athletics....I am pissed...this Gruden thing is a reality check....but don't let you believe I am content....at all...

Gruden is not the only winner out there....there are others that are cheaper....

This is dumb.

The head coach of the #1 team in the country makes $2.6M
#3 makes $2.5M
#4 (a coach who's won 2 SEC titles and averages 10 wins a year) makes $3M

Do you want me to keep going?

Ask Nick Saban if a coach who makes a measly $2.5M could ever beat him. But be sure to be standing by the door when you ask, 'cause that happened this year and he's gonna be pissed you reminded him.

Ask Auburn whether paying a coach a bunch of money ($3.6M, to be precise) guarantees he'll be any good.

Ask Texas whether it's a good idea to give massive ($5.4M), multi-year (until 2016) deals with tons of institutional control to can't-miss coaches.

If you really think you have to pay $6M to get a good coach, you're not paying attention.

ETA: Damn you, LebVol, for beating me to the point.

what part of "Gruden wasn't interested " do you not understand....
had nothing to do with money to assistants...and all these "insiders" need to wipe the egg off their faces...

NOBODY had a clue....

I was wondering why he has not coached in five years.

Why are we hung up on a couple of million for assistants? Mind boggling. Is Hart just incompetant and afraid to have a rock star on his turf? Perhaps Gruden was never on Hart's list. The longer Hart remains silent the more guilty he appears. The stink from this is just starting.

Spot on.

We know the boosters have made money available.

If Hart has spurned Gruden, he had better fookin' have the clone of General Neyland wating behind the curtains.

Saban makes $5.5 mill. per year.

I think your trying to find something that is not there. Gruden was not hired. Hart does not need to explain anything.

Yeah, he kind of does. Without the fanbase UT doesn't have the revenue to pay the salaries of the Hart's and Cheek's of the world.

Just think, if they paid Sumlin and staff 8 mill, A&M could have just joined the NFL and skipped the SEC all together!

Gruden ain't Saban, either.

Okay, I've asked the question before.

Do we take that dump trunk of money we were ready to unload on Gruden to Tuscaloosa then?

The initial response to that is HELL NO. I want a legitimate explaination as to why.

Because even I will admit, Saban is more proven than Gruden AND we get to screw Alabama if we pull off the coup d'etat.

Win-Win!

Here are a couple of reasons:
1. Whatever you offer, Alabama will top. They have more money than we do. A lot more. And they've built the guy a statue. They're not letting him go.
2. The ****-talking from Bama fams after this happens will be unbearable. And they'll be right, for once.
3. At some point, the NCAA is going to catch up to Nick Saban. If he's at UT when it happens, we get all the fun of NCAA sanctions (probably) without the winning that comes along with it. AND we will have paid a mint for the privilege.

Need more reasons?

Would it not make more sense to take maybe 4 million and go after the guy who just took Saban out in his 1st year Kevin Sumlin? Sumlin makes like 2.1 million. A&M will probably give him a huge raise after the season, but can't hurt to try. I was in the hire Sumlin camp when he was still at Houston.

Okay, fine on #1. If we miss out on Gruden, and we go to #2 and Alabama has to pony up more cash. Great. Stick it to Tuscaloosa!

As for #2 - I could care less.

As for #3 - WTF? I don't think Saban has a Scam Newton / Julio Jones skeleton in is Tuscaloosa locker room.

Yeah, those 3 star QBs are hard to come by. Johnny Football was a 3 star. Keenan at Houston was a 3 star. Maybe the guy can just develop QB's? Think he has a problem getting top QB recruits to consider his team as an option with what he is doing with them? If he needs an elite QB to come on board to run his offense, OK. He just beat #1 Bama. It should not be a problem IMO.
