Mr. Knecht

Could be wrong but from everything I’ve heard so far is that it’s an ankle sprain. Wes Rucker reported last night that he was walking with a slight limp this last night getting into the bus, but he wasn’t in a boot or needing any help. I would think it’s probably the severity of Tobe Awaka’s ankle sprain, which means he may miss 3+ games. As long as he’s healthy for conference play that’s what we need.
Thanks for the update. It’s my busy time of year so I’ve been swamped at work.

Hate to say it but Knecht going down for a couple of weeks will do this team some good. Gotta get some guys going.
Not just some guys. We need Dillione back and we need more Estrella....a lot more. Know he's not quite ready yet, but he needs force feeding. No offense to Aidoo and Awaka, but they aren't going to give us much in the paint offensively. Sure, a game here or there, but we can't turn to either one of them for a bucket to snap a cold spell from outside. Estrella has some game offensively. We need to bring out every ounce of it before league play and see what we have with him.

Will FD be back that quickly? I was under the impression that his injury was likely longer term.

I have a feeling that Dilione’s issue will be bothering him all season. Maybe his whole career. Maybe a doctor will post some details of what’s involved with FD’s condition.

The game isn’t until Tuesday I think
These issues, as we know, can linger for longer than we like. Playing too quickly can jeopardize too much too soon. Personally, I can’t imagine him playing against Illinois, either. We shall see, but I’m sure the medical staff will use an abundance of caution.

Exactly. In retrospect, maybe Awaka set himself back playing too soon. Personally, I was stunned when he missed UNC after playing the prior two games. At this point, being healthy for the conference schedule should be the priority.

Don't think he'll be back that quickly, but despite his early struggles, his athleticism and ability to attack the rim would be a boost to this offense when the shots aren't dropping. Really surprised that, with Knecht, Gainey and Vescovi, we continue to have these droughts.

Gainey simply has to shoot better. He can get his shots, and he's got a nice-looking jumper, but they haven't been falling. We need him to be a more dependable shooter. To me he looks like a guy who could be averaging 12-15 a game, but he just hasn't found his comfort/confidence level. It's importance that he does, and that the coaches help him find it, because he's talented.

With the way Gainey and Knecht can drive the ball, it's even more frustrating and inexplicable that Vescovi isn't having a field day as a spot up shooter. It would be such a shame if things can't get straightened out sooner rather than later.

I'll be fine with later if that means entering tournament time. It's all about having the team rolling by April, everything before that is time for Barnes to establish roles and rotations.

I think it’s the difference between getting open and putting up shots in an equal opportunity motion system vs a less dynamic system with more driving and isolation. He’s having to learn to play off of a great offensive player vs. play within an offense
