Proximity matters, state lines really don’t.
But even then it is a huge variable where it falls on each recruits Ben Franklin T. Some high and some low. If family wants to attend games vs happy with the TV is big to determine the time investment and costs for game day.
The impact of the migration from local radio/TV/newspaper only world to the current every game on TV and instant updates on your phone has really changed those dynamics. Still can payoff IF they grow up with colored hats and shirts and saved ticket stubs. Not so much if family is transplanted with other or no allegiances in our highly mobile world.
Not nearly the factor it used to be.
And many kids don’t want to be really close to home when they go to college. But 2-4 hours can be the sweet spot…far enough that you’re” going away to college,” But close enough that family can come see you play. That’s why being close to Nashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte is great for Tennessee, but Knoxville area kids who are big time recruits like Higgins and Rodgers don’t mind leaving.
I really hated it, and hated seeing them shine! However, it all worked out in the end. I'm happy with where we are currently, and can look at all the turmoil over the years over the years and know all of those things led to us getting Heupel.Timing with those two factored in. I could not have ill will for them under those circumstances. Hated it but……..
