'25 MS QB Deuce Knight (Auburn commit)

Gmac was the better passer as a sophomore. Deuce looks to have progressed significantly in the off season. I guess we'll see this fall, but I would take Knight's commitment regardless if he's ready to commit. It's a year and a half before early signing day for the class of '25. There's no question as to who is the better athlete and offers the most versatility.
While I agree with everything you've said (and I would take Deuce's commitment right now also), the better athlete doesn't always make the best quarterback.

I won't disagree with that, but with Heupel's history of QB development I think either would be very successful here. Deuce definitely wants to be a Vol. Gmac is still weighing his options, but apparently loves the Clemson Cult Club. It appears to be a UT, Clemson, Bama battle for his services. The main reason why this is really a debate is because he's an in-state 5* QB. There's a lot of pressure to not let that kid go elsewhere. Otherwise, I think they would have let D. Knight publicly commit already.

Agree. The only thing that would maybe hold back is Mac might be the highest rated QB to ever come out of the state. I normally don’t get hung up instate guys. But, and I am not saying this is the case, could getting/missing Mac affect instate recruiting down the line?

Yes Knight is the better athlete. Looks like Mac is more like Nico and Knight more like Hooker. IMO, if you have truly elite arm talent, and I think Mac has that, I don’t think you need that mobile of a QB. You need a QB that has escapability and looking at film Mac has that.

Like I have said this is a wonderful problem to have. Because I think Knight is gonna wind up being a 5* as well.

I agree, and I wouldn’t risk losing Deuce. I’d accept his commitment now if he’s ready. When they’re both this good, you don’t risk a definite for a maybe.

That’s what I am saying. You have to know that Heupel is getting pressured to get Mac. That’s gotta be tough. Because if Knight wants to commit, imo, you take it in a heartbeat. But if you do that, does it hurt instate recruiting with some too HS in the state?

No question? We are talking about kids who were just sophomores in high school...
D. Knight just won state in the long jump, and finished 2nd in the high jump as a SOPHOMORE IN HIGH SCHOOL. So yes, I don't think there's any question as to who is the better athlete. GMac is currently the more polished QB, but barring serious injury to Knight, he'll never be the most athletic of the two.

I don't know if MacIntyre has that type of sway with in state recruits. Harrison Bailey didn't have any sway with his own dang teammates. I worry about missing out on both by waiting too long for a MacIntyre decision. Deuce's recruitment is heating up like a pizza oven.

Good point. So hypothetical. But say Deuce wants to commit. Does Heupel tell Mac hey Knight wants in and tries to pressure Mac? I don’t know if Huepel is like that. And who knows? Maybe we get both of them. When is the last time we have had to decide which elite QB to choose??

The only time that I can remember anything that would be close to this was Manning and Stewart....and they both committed.

They should go ahead and take this guy now. If his commitment scares G-Mac away I wouldn’t want him anyway. A QB that isn’t confident in his ability and doesn’t want to compete for the job is the kind that would mail it in after a Dallas Turner fumble recovery for a TD late in the fourth. In Heupel’s system give me the athletic guy that has good arm talent and is a gamer that makes things happen under pressure. Joe Burrow had average arm talent at best when he got to Ohio State, but he worked his ass off and is the 2nd best QB in the NFL right now

Maybe Erik Ainge and Brent Schaeffer?
